Well after looking at them on the road and respecting their perceived fun factor, looks like a go cart on steroids, I finally drove one. Now I have sat in them before but never got the urge as they seemed quite small inside. That perspective has changed now that my wife has concerns about me riding my motorcycle so often, so I tests drove an '05 Cooper S with and Auto. WOW this was one fun car, probably more fun with a manual but I really liked the interior and the way it drove. Not as choppy as I expected from such a small wheel base.
So long story short I see a MINI in my future. Can still have garage space for my other toys and get excited to drive it every time. It really is like a giant Go Cart and I mean that in a good way.

Thanks fellas, I really need to study more to learn the pros and cons of each year. Definitely not buying new as options add up faster than my old '03 Cobra.
