Hello All: Newbie here.
Hello All: Newbie here.
Hello Everyone:
What a great site. You people really know your stuff. I have been reading posts for the past week, and I am very impressed.
I am a soon-to-be owner of a '03 MCS (friday). It has 60K on her, Silver, well maintained, lots of upgrades: Exhaust (I do not know brand), K&N CAI, 15% pully mod (unknown brand), and has been tuned
?? I am purchasing from the original owner (a good friend) who has babied this car ever since he ordered it.
The details on the upgrades is what I have been reading about.
I am sure I will have lots of questions in the upcomming weeks, and any help would be appreciated.
One question I have: I know it needs new tires. I have done a lot of research, and came across this "Nokian" brand tire. Reading the reviews, I am quite impressed with them (and some other brands) as I am going to be doing a lot of freeway miles year round. They are expensive, but I do not mind paying for quality. The warrenty is 50K.
However, the closest available size is 215/45/15. from the threads I read, it looks as if these may work. Does anyone have these on their car? What do you think?
Any input or suggestions?
Thanks

congrats and welcome!
I have had nokians before on my last car, they are geared towards winter. They are "the world's leader in winter tyres"
I drove mine in the summer and traction is no where near my yokohama s.drives. I'm sure you could find a better all season!
Good luck

Thank you for the great information and input.
I live in Washington state. We tend get above average rain and cool wet weather.
I am also considering (among other brands,) a set of Michelin Pilot All Season Sport Plus tires.

Well, I bet that Friday can't come fast enough for you!
Congratulations SB Dog on getting a MINI and welcome to NAM!
Now that you're part of the NAMily you need to share pics of your MINI with the rest of your brothers and sisters! So post up, cause we do love those pics!
Don't have much input to give here though I am sure that there are others with much more info to share. Therefore you might want to mosey on over to the MINIs in General forum here on NAM, in particular the Tires, Wheels, & Brakes section. Lots of information there oh and btw, check with Tire Rack ( http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp ) for added info!
Good luck to you and glad to have you on board!
Motor On!

Thanks all of you for the warm welcome.
I do plan on doing a road trip over this weekend, and can't wait.
As far as the tires, I decided to have the Nokians installed (Friday). There is that 100% satisfaction clause, so I will see how they work out.
I have a set of 19" Hankook tires on my '02 T-Bird, and have been quite pleased with them, but she is my garage queen. I have to park the car on rubber mats to reduce the flat spots that develop (they do go away after I drive for a distance) as she only has 6700 miles on her.
I will post pics of the MCS after the weekend.
