Hello from San Diego

Hello Forum!

I am awaiting for the arrival of my MCS mid June. I have some questions for you.

First, I am planning on getting a factory alarm installed before taking possession. Do MINI owners even have alarms? Sorry for the dumb question. I don't see a lot of talk about it. Secondly, if I have accessories installed at a non-dealership location, will my warranty be voided? I'm planning to have driving lights and alarm installed and they each cost $795 which is so $$$$$$. Thirdly, what are your thoughts on the JCW kit ($2100 plus installation). Thanks for your input!

Lindy

Welcome to the NAMily!!
Sorry, but I can only answer the Alarm ?...I had the Alarm installed prior to Delivery as well, would do it again in a Heart Beat...for the simple fact that it does reduce your Mo. Insurance Costs. Beware that if you Do NOT have the Alarm Configured at time of Delivery it will NOT be able to be installed after Delivery...MINI is side stepping some Costs on NON-Configured items...I would talk to your Dealer about which ones!!

Welcome. There is a great group in SD, we even have an authorized installer there.

Hello! I'm in San Diego waiting for the arrival of my sweet ride in June as well! I personally hate car alarms. Besides the insurance discount, all they're good for is annoying people. No one pays attention when it's blaring, but they all wish it would just shut the hell up.

I don't have an alarm, but I do have LOW-JACK. I think it,s a lot better than a alarm. They have a guarantee to recover your car with in 48 hrs or they will pay for it.

The Mini comes with an imobilizer. This gives an insurance discount. You don't need the alarm on top of it for a discount.

Good to know! I'll be sure to mention that to the insurance people.

Hi! I'm new here too. My Insurance Agent didn't ask whether or not it had a alarm, it doesn't. My Volvo has an alarm and the Mini cost the same to insure. So, I guess the weird key (Imobilizer) brought the cost down.

No one uses alarms where I live (out in the boondocks) everyone has dogs.

Dogs instead of alarms? That's worse! At least alarms have an off switch.

btw, not all insurance companies give discounts for an alarm, or lowjack.
