Hi all! I just got my first MINI and love it. But I encountered a problem when I stopped for my first refueling. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get the gas cap to open! I even rechecked the manual to make sure everything was correct. All doors were unlocked. Fuel flap opened fine. Turned gas cap to the right and heard clicking sound. Turned gas cap counterclockwise, as instructed in manual, but the cap stopped and would not turn any further or pull out! After getting to my office, I tried again and accidentally discovered that the gas cap must be in a completely horizontal position. When the cap is completely horizontal, it lifts out easily. Looking at the gas cap, you will notice two notches on the cap, and two notches on the neck of the fuel tank. These notches must match up, like a puzzle piece, for the gas cap to lift out. I was so frustrated, but I am glad I figured it out. There is nothing about this in my 2010 manual, and when I asked my dealer about it, he forgot that my MINI has the "new" cap.
