2010 JCW ordered... the wait begins...

Hey all,

I've been lurking on the site for some time now. I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my car. I keep checking up on the status of the car, but it still says that it is in production... I guess I have a ways to go still since I only ordered it a week ago. It takes longer than a week to build a car??

I've got a bunch of mods planned already. Will definitely be doing the RMW tune, and I'm still trying to decide what wheels to get for the car.

I'm looking forward to getting my motoring on and learning as much as I possibly can about these cars.

-Eric

Congrats on the new JCW! What color did you end up getting? And did you get the JCW aero kit? I couldn't afford a JCW this time around, but there's always next time.

Chili Red w/ black roof. I am definitely getting the JCW aero kit. I think it really pulls everything together on the car. And yes, there is always next time. I've noticed that there are many owners with multiple Minis. Maybe they are contagious?

Heck yeah. MINI's and modding = Contagious and addicting. But to paraphrase the song; If loving MINI's is wrong, I don't want to be right.

And nice choice on the color - I think my next one might be Chili Red / Black. It just seems so classic.

I waited almost 4 months for my last car.. 6 weeks should be a cakewalk, but I'm antsy already.

At least it gives me time to plan out how I want to mod the car.

Yeah I don't know how you guys have the patience to wait, I wish I had that kind of willpower. I bought my car off the lot but luckily there were so many unsold MINI's that I found one with almost every option I was looking for. But your wait will be well worth it.

Congratulations on the new MINI and welcome to NAM! I'm currently waiting for my MINI to arrive and it definitely feels like forever, but it will certainly be worth it. Sit tight and try to be patient and it'll be here before you know it.

Welcome aboard! I'm literally in the same boat as anuppercasej (the Faust, arriving 4/28 in NY) and yes, the wait is intolerable, but it's nice to have company to share the wait:-) This is my second MINI, which makes it a little easier, to be honest. MINIs are definitely addictive!

That's my color combo, too! At least, the one I'm waiting on - I still have at least 7 weeks to wait.

And I am a second time MINI owner. I lasted 5 months w/o a MINI. And those were a LONG 5 months!!

Oh, Emann! I wanted to add that I ordered the first time too, and you know what? While the wait is excruciating, it's also exciting. There is a great post that's a sticky that shows you how to track your MINI if you haven't read that yet!

Chili red is definitely the way to go!

Thanks! My MA has actually been pretty good about keeping me updated. I just checked thru the phone and it says my car will finish production on 4/29. Does that actually mean I would get my car fairly soon? I don't wanna get my hopes up.

On another note, my dealer is telling me that there are 2 available aero kits?? One with the wheel wells paint matched, and the other with the wheel wells black? Does that sound right to anyone? I'm confused

They made this info available after I asked about getting the aero kit installed at the port. I was initially led to believe that the kit would have to be installed at the dealer after they got the car, but it looks like it can be done at the VDC before it gets to the dealer. My MA told me she would get me a quote for both kits tomorrow...

A lot depends on when you can get on a transport, and then how long that transport takes to get to your dealer's VDC location. All of this is explained in the sticky for tracking your MINI in the 1st Gear forum.

By the looks of things now, I should have the whole process completed in exactly 1 month (Mar 30 - Apr 30). Frankly, I don't know how I'll get any work done this week

I believe there are 2 kits per MINIUSA.com. One is a JCW aero kit (black wheel wells) and another kit that has them painted the same color as the body style. Though there may be something else but those are the two that are on the site when you do the build.

Like the others here I can only share my experience but so far things appear to be tracking to schedule and a bit faster. For me -

scheduled for prod 4/5
production started 4/7
completed production 4/19 (estimated 4/15)
arrived at port of exit 4/20 (this makes me question if it did not finish prod earlier)
ship selected & departed 4/24

So I am pretty pleased with this three weeks into this and the eta for the VDC is 5/3. From there they need to add my aero kit and then get it to Texas.

I hope this helps.

WannaMini - just had to comment on your name. I am in Georgia thus Gawannamini - now I gotta MINI and have had almost a year of driving fun.

Emann - hang in there - with all that JCW power it will be worth the wait...

This is the "Factory Aero Kit" which can be installed, surprise!, at the Factory:

This is the "JCW Aero Kit", which is a dealer or VDC add-on:

mini6322 - Wow! It looks like you're really moving along there. Hopefully my car can keep pace. Are you getting the aero kit installed at the port? Would you mind my asking how much that will cost?

Blainestang - Thanks for clarifying for me. I definitely like the JCW kit better. I wonder if they would color match that one..

So for the JCW kit, what's the difference in having the port or dealer do the install? Is the price the main difference?

Emann, I am getting the JCW Aero Kit (preferred it over the factory kit) and it is being installed at the VDC at port. One would assume they are better suited than a local dealership. I believe the cost was a standard cost for the install @ VDC - I don't have the cost in front of me this morning.

So - something interesting...

I got on to MINIUSA last night, and it had updated from the dealer slot of Pepper White to my spec of Chili Red. So of course, I got excited!

But then I checked again this morning, and it's back to Pepper White. ??? I have an email into my MA to see why that is!

ETA: Sorry! I meant to post this on the support group thread!!
