My New-To-Me '02 MCS

Bought this Liquid Yellow '02 MINI Cooper S in late December and put it on the road recently. It's a low mileage MCS w/ Premium, Sport, & Cold weather packages that I found down in Virginia at a GREAT price. The car is a ball to drive and I'm always looking for a reason to drive it. Hopefully I can hook up with some other MINI drivers in the Rochester, NY area this summer.

Very nice, congrats! How many miles did it have when you bought it?

Only paid 9K w/ 73K on in it which I though was pretty cheap for a very highly optioned MCS that has never been hit and lived down south all it's life. I got all the maintenance records and reciepts, it's had a new clutch within the last year and a new battery, PS pump and PS fan the month before I bought it. Over $3500 of repair / maintenance in the last year. The only repair I've had to do to date was a resevoir tank ($40) and a little clean up and detailing. By the way, here is a little info that can save MC drivers a bundle of money. These tanks are VERY prone to failure and can lead to severe engine failure. If you are even the least bit aware of whats going on with your car you can catch this failure very early as I did. The tank sits directly over the exhaust manifold and the antifreeze will drip on the exhaust flex pipe when you park the car. When you start you car the next time you will smell the antifreeze until it burns off. Pop the bonnet while it is running and you will see the antifreeze bubbling out of the resevoir seam - time to replace it. It only cost $40 and take 10 minutes to do yourself.

Welcome, 36rodder. Even though there's no dealership in Rah-cha-cha, there's a pretty good group of MINI owners and enthusiasts from the Buffalo Area, and all around Central New York. http://miniclubofwny.activeboard.com...aBID=71633&p=1

There's often group rides, road rallies, autocrosses and social events centered around MINIs. Even checking Buffalo's Towne MINI dealership web site could tip you off on upcoming events, too...

The next big event coming up is probably the ride down to Watkins Glen International, for Opening Day. All of the MINIs around gather together and do some paced laps on the track together. It's a really fun time, and a great way to meet lot's of other MINIs and their drivers.

Welcome to NAM, and to MINI ownership.

Welcome to the forum, good looking '02, sounds like a bunch of the niggeling problems have already happened and been taken care of, should be some trouble free motoring ahead.

Thanks for the info on the WNY MINI Club. I joined up and I am planning on going on the Watkins Glen opening day run in a couple weeks. This should be a great day of MINI driving.
