Hello, new (to me) R56 JCW owner here! (lots of pics)
Hello, I thought I'd introduce myself and share my purchase experience here on NAM, since I have done so on a few other MINI forums. My name is Jay.
I had been on the quest for a very specific car, found one in Seattle, and sold my only car immediately. The day after the deal was done, I called and the car in Seattle had been sold.
Anyway, that took the wind out of my sails, but my girlfriend suggested I look elsewhere... and sure enough I found an even better equipped, cheaper, lower mileage one in San Rafael, CA!
Here's a few pics chronicling my journey to get it.
Here I was, sitting in the airport. It's pretty empty in Vegas at 5:00am on a Friday morning.

It was still dark outside.

Finally the sun came up, and we began to board.

Airborne, the mountains looked cool with all the snow on them.

All this billowy stuff in the air... didn't bode well for what the weather would be like upon arrival in Oakland.

So I sat outdoors for almost an hour waiting for the bus to take me to San Rafael. I had my DSLR out and this lady told me that this was a busy bus stop and that I'd be smart to put it away.

I got on the bus, at which point the driver told me that photography wasn't permitted. I have no idea why, but then Oakland is pretty meh, so there was nothing to take photos of anyway. Plus it was pouring rain.
I arrived at the bus terminal, and a guy from the dealership came to pick me up. I arrived at the showroom, and saw this little gem.

I signed any remaining documents and was well on my way within about 20 minutes. Thankfully, I had navigation to help me get out of Oakland...

...or so I thought. I got lost in Berkeley because I was looking for someplace to eat. I couldn't find a fast food joint to save my life, just a bunch of vegan places. :D I hit the open road, I-5 through California. It was ok, except for the cow poop smell.

There was a shortage of "scenery," but most of the drive looked like this.

Then I saw an old school taco bell.

I made it home after 10pm, so it was too dark for pics but here are a few I took the next morning (still kinda dirty).

Congrats on your newly purchased MINI, enjoyed the photo journal and glad all went pretty well. The scenery heading home might have been less than inspiring but when you are viewing it from inside a MINI it's exciting. There is nothing to be said for I-80 west out of SLC but in the MINI at undisclosed speeds it's great.
Thanks, everyone.
So far, my only plans for mods are in the stereo department. I really love how the car feels as it is, and I'd like to get a little more acquainted with it before I do any additional mods. It did have the NM Engineering RS Alpha springs on it, which was a nice and unexpected surprise!

Nice Post !!!!
Your picture story is really great. The JCW is looking good and I'm sure the more you drive it the better you will like it. I have had mine since October 2008 and every time I drive it I smile more & more.
PS: You got a great color.

I'm also trying to work out a way to make enclosures out of PVC so that I don't have to give up any trunk space. If I go with something like a 6.5" subwoofer, it'd need about .30 cu ft. If I use PVC pipe, that's about an 18" length. i think I can fit that in the area where the 6x9 is now.
