Greetings from SWVA.
Greetings from SWVA.
Well for the past two weeks, I've had Mini fever and I've been browsing on here... trying to soak up all of the info I can.
Allow myself to introduce... myself.
I'm Ryan, and I'm an Internet Sales Consultant for a Toyota Dealership. I'm 24 and I've been into the auto word for a while. At 16, my first car was a '90 Nissan 240sx. I became a nerd and dedicated my life to that car. I still have it, and its now a sr20 car, but it's been taking for granted for about two years. At 18, I began working for a company that catered to the Nissan/SR20 community. I then bought a '03 SE-R Spec V. I loved that car to death, but I hated the 3 pre-cat failures and 2 engines. At 19, I moved into a bigger tuning company called Ride Revolution that was based in JC TN. Our biggest accomplishment was Nick Hogan's Supra that he demolished. After Ride Rev. shut down I began to sell cell phones and computer repair for 4 years. While working at Ride, a few of my co-workers drove VW's (R32 and MK4 GTI) I began to hang out with the VW crowd, and really fell in love with european cars. In '07 after having all the problems with the SE-R, I sold it and bought a new Rabbit.
Which brings me here. I love my Rabbit to death. I initially went to purchase a GTI, but I still had a bad taste in my mouth from owning a factory sport oriented car. I also decide to go as base as I could, because the Spec V had every option on it. Its been a great car, the best handling vehicle I own. However, its not enough. Selling cars, I've seen GTI's, Cooper S', G35's, etc. come and go through the lot. I've got the bug, I'm buying something new.
I've narrowed it down to the MK6 GTI, or a r56 Mini. I'm heading to Flow Mini this week to get some time behind the wheel to get a real feel for the Mini. My only concerns are... reliability. I know the r53's were problematic, as well as some of the r56's. I'm just wondering if everything is sorted out on the 2010's. As of right now, I'm sold on the Mini. We had a 08 at the dealership, and it was a monster! Call me crazy, but my friend's sister has r53 JCW car... and the 08 felt just almost as strong.
Another thing... if I get the Mini, who do I turn for software? Alta? I know APR is king of the VW world, but I'm lost in the Mini world.
Thanks guys! I'm sorry for being long winded. Feel free to chime in and direct me. Happy Motoring!
