Hello from up North!
Hello from up North!
Hello everyone!
I just wanted to take a few seconds to say hi from cold (snowless) Canada!
(Maybe that statement does not apply to all parts of Canada, but it surely does in the East - where I live - and West, as you may have heard. Winter Olympics have a certain need for the white stuff!)
My current lease is up this July and I'm considering a Mini as my next car! Still unsure whether I'd go with the basic engine or the S, but I'll need to try both to make up my mind (currently no automatics to test drive in my area.)
If a Mini it is (there are a few other cars in the running), it'd be a Camden! That model really caught my eye first time I saw it.
So this was my little intro. I'm sure I'll learn a lot on here!
Cheers!
Lili

Hey Lili, hope you join us as a MINI owner, you won't regret it. Are you upset with the lack of snow or you happy? Same thing here in Salt Lake about 60% of normal, still have coverage at ski areas but need more if we are going to have a long season.
Well, never thought I'd say that, but turns out I'd like to have more snow. I actually have a four-legged friend that loves the white stuff, but it makes it kinda awkward playing frisbee in my backyard when there's about 2 feet of uneven ice!
Welcome to NAM, Lili! I found this forum last year while I was trying to decide whether to buy my first MINI or not, and you're right, you can learn a LOT here. Some of it's scary and some is encouraging, but once you get behind the wheel of a MINI, none of it seems as important as owning a MINI for yourself! Be sure you use the SPORT button when you test drive the S; it's a little like flying!

I get what you mean by "some of it's scary" already, but I'll try to make an informed decision, while allowing my overall appreciation and gut-feeling to have some say when I’ll make my final choice!

I think it was as my English and Canadian loving wife force-fed me some Dr. Who on BBC America...
Gotta say, I DO love the simple beauty of your Maple leaf flag, not to mention how awesome the Kids in the Hall were!
Lol, my wife was just explaining the whole "zed" thing to me the other day as I tried to wrap my mind around it and kept saying, "they say WHAT for the letter Z?!"

And did you know that Toronto is actually pronounced Trawna?
This could go on and on...
It was refreshing to witness the strong patriotism among Canadians throughout the past two weeks - something Americans are far better recognized for than us. Hopefully this strong sense of pride will remain over time. With Canada having set a new record for most gold medals won by a nation (and host country) in any Winter Olympic Games, and USA leaving with the most medals by any country - bottom line is: The rest of the world is probably glad the next two Winter Olympics will be held in other continents!
Welcome Lili.
It's even worse that that you thought! (zee/ZED)
They also drop vowels from words too and they hate it here at the office when I add letters back into words, like colour, favour, flavour and neighbour the way I was taught in school!
I don't remember calling it "Trawna" when we lived nearby (Ajax/Pickering)
that must be the Ottawa pronunciation!
Hurry up and get that Mini...we have been having a blast with ours going on trips and meeting all sorts of great folks, etc., etc. Best fun on 4 wheels...but no automatic tranny
it's a stick baby!!!

My wife and I really liked the closing ceremonies last night. She really liked the maple leaves and I really liked the giant inflatable beavers! lol It's nice to see a country that has the confidence to smile at themselves.

Sure, us Ottawa peeps like to have our own lingo!
I'm in slow-moving traffic all the time. Can't imagine not having an automatic - sorry, eh?!
I heard on the news this morning, Russia is giving their olympic leaders the boot over their poor showing. 3 medals does not please the Czar.

Heard that as well! But can you imagine the strenuous 4 years that are ahead for Russia's Olympic athletes? Oy! Hahaha! I also liked the approach used for the closing ceremonies. Can't remember seeing something that refreshing on such a world stage before - but I may be biased!
