MINI newbie

my name is Cole, I’m not new to modding, but new to minis. I come from a world of torque, cheap modds, straight line performance, 14mpg, and the seemingly endless power of the LSX based engine.

Later today I should be picking up my new to me 2006 cooper S (R53?) silver with black stripes and a black roof.

On my list so far I’m thinking, CAI, exhaust, short shifter, a tune (HOW are you guys tuning these things?), dose anyone sell a back seat delete? I’m about 6'2" I don’t think anyone will want to sit back there.
What supporting modds should be done with a pulley upgrade?

Are there any cheap/ free modds to be done? There are 4-5 free things you can do to an LSX engine.

Well I’m looking forward to learning as much as possible about these great little cars

Also if i could please get a quick response on this one.

The MCs I'm getting is a 06 with 30k miles, one owner, from carmax.

Should I get an extended warrantee good for 102k miles for about 2,000 bucks? Or can I be confident this little car wont crapout on me?

Welcome to NAM and MINIs! Sorry, I can't answer your warranty question, since I've just had my MINI since 1/22/10, but I went for the extended warranty. I know there is a thread on NAM about the whether to buy the extended warranty or not, which you could probably search for and find. I ran across it while researching whether to buy a MINI or not. I'm pretty sure you will find opinions from both schools of thought.

Welcome, I love the excitement about modding your car. There is a ton you can do.

Number one do the pulley, we actually have a complete pulley kit available.
That will be the biggest bang for the buck.

After that the money goes up and the gains are less. Feel free to give us a call and we'll go over options and help make a plan that works for your needs.

Yes get talking with Way, he can get you started on a mod program, there is quite a bit that can be done to a 1st gen MINI.

The car is surprisingly quick for what it is. I want to take it to hrp I think it will be in the 14s. the best part is taking turns with that stiff suspension, and flawless 6 speed, and clutch.

Welcome to NAM
Pulley and Rear Sway Bar
MINIs seem to be more fun at tracks like MSR Houston or Auto-X'ed at the Houston PD training facility at Bush Airport.

Many car clubs put on events for much cheaper than that like $150-$300. NASA has few dates at MSRH and Porsche Club of America at TSW for $250. Auto-X is the much more affordable and seem almost every sunday at the Houston Police Academy (BMWCCA & PCA) and the Gulf Greyhound Park (SCCA)
