Welcome to NAM,
Instead of buying mods, I'd hold off a bit and try an HPDE in your area that will make your car faster without opening the bonnet or turning a wrench. And then that will give you a better idea of what you need. I prefer to start off with suspension then engine mods. Assuming you got a 09 MCS, maybe a rear sway bar and light wheels with sticky non run-flats. (non-run flats will run more comfortable especially in Detroit)

Speaking as a track addict myself, I'll second the advice given by howsoonisnow1985. The most important modification you can make to your MINI sits behind the steering wheel.

You first should figure out what you want to do with your MINI.

- Autocrosser?
- Track car?
- Slammed street cruiser/stoplight racer?
- Show car?
- Sleeper?
- Canyon carver?
- All of the above?

If you know what your end goal will be, it will then be much easier for us to help you figure out what mods to perform to get there...

Well, you might as well just pick one. Seriously. I tend to start with power mods and go from there.

Good luck!

You really can't go wrong with non run-flat tires, lighter wheels, an intake, pulley and exhaust. That's just for starters.

Probably should be the first mod for every MINI. A lot of people carry a Slime kit in the boot, and others go with AAA. Just do a quick search and see how people feel after they've made the switch.

I made the switch to non run-flats, and it is SO MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE! I carry a slime kit in the boot, which has tire slime and a DC cigarette-lighter-socket-powered air pump. Haven't had to use it yet, (Knocking on wood)...

Then again, my car is not our big vacation car; I only drive it to work and back, so I'm not worried about being stranded anywhere...

Non Run Flats

I would like to change my tires to non run flats. What are the best to have for regular street driving? Is there anything else I can do inexpensively to help smooth out the ride?

rzelred, I would recommend you check out the Tires, Wheels & Brakes forum for answers to your questions.

I know what you mean man, there are so many choices it can be overwhelming. However, if you want to get the most out of your driving experience, I'll have to +1 more on doing an HPDE event. I did the PWDA and loved it. I feel like a more capable and competent driver after just 1 event! I'll be doing more in the spring.

Good call on the intake - the engine needs to breathe! If you want a few more ponies and more sound you can do the one ball mod for ~$40-$60 bucks. I'm looking into getting non-RFs. Either Falkens or Potenzas. Not sure yet. Would like a good all-season that I can do occasional track days with.

Being that it is an 09, you have plenty of life left, as does your MINI! So, you have time to think on it for a bit. I would check out other people's MINIs to see what they have done so you can get ideas.

Goodluck
