New to NAM and the World of Minis

Hi all,

Just a quick note. I just purchased an R55 Clubman as salvage with interior water damage, but only 1903 miles. I've replaced the fuse box and have ordered a new BCM and key set. Looks like the water didn't even make it to the seat bottoms. Drying out the carpet has been the real chore since thie foam really holds the moisture. More updates once the BCM arrives.

How much did you happen to buy the clubman for? I personally would have been a little hesitant at buying a salvage but if you looked it over then that is great. Also we need some pictures of your new MINI!!! Good luck and happy motoring!

Let's just say that I got the car significantly less than you would find a comparable '09 clubman with 2K miles. The repairs are going to run about $800. With the new fuse baox instralled I already have some of the car back to life. The new BCM should be here this week along with a new key fob.

I would have been more worried if the water had been higher, but you could see a clear line about 2 inches up the fuse box from the water. I had to replace a couple of connectors on the fuse box and really clean the connectors on the BCM so that they will have good connection. I believe there would have been very minor problems if they had disconnected the battery instead of setting up electrolysis with it connected.

It is a base model with only a few installed options, which makes it a perfect 2nd car for me. It means I can park my 14mpg tahoe when its not being used to trailer the boat to the coast.

I'll post some pics of the interior with the carpet removed.

I hope you have nothing but 'clear sailing' (so to speak) with your bargain MINI! Good for you for scoring such a deal--may all your roads now be twisty and your face be plastered with a smile!

Welcome to MINIs and NAM!

Was the water damage only to the interior? How did it happen? Good luck in drying it out and getting it running.

The insurance companies don't tell you what happened, but the water damage seems to only be interior only as the exterior looks showroom new. I have pulled the carpet and you can see a clear line across the fuse box about 3 inches high. Drying the carpet is going to be the biggest problem. We have had nothing but cold snowy weather since it came home. Next I'll try a dehumidifier.

The car is chili red with silver roof. No stripes, just a plain jane base model. Perfect for sundays at VIR.

I remember reading about someone who left his sunroof open in a downpour. I wonder if it was his?

No sunroof in this car. I wouldn't doubt rain through the windows however. The undercarriage is as clean as the day it was delivered so I doubt it was in a swollen river.

Got the BCM installed today and picked up a new key. the car fired up within about 2 seconds. It sounds great and idles perfectly. it's obvious there are some grounding issues since only one head light works, same with tail lights and there are several warning lights on the dash like TPMS, ABS, Airbag, etc. I'll start tracking those down when my wiring diagram cd shows up. I don't think it should e a huge problem with any of the warnings except the airbag since it will probably have to be cleared by the dealer.
