I might be new here

So I'm doing research, and it's quotes like this:

Having a hard time trying to do the recommended brake-in and keeping it under 4500 rpms.
that make me pretty sure I'll want to get a JCW. I'll be coming from the cockpit layout of my dearly beloved 1985 Toyota MR2, which has absolutely no horsepower, which probably keeps me out of trouble, and yet still with the suspension I have setup on it, I can still outpace a lot of newer more powerful cars. I beat down most Audi's at open track days.

Alas, my MR2 is starting to show her age with some parts being harder to find, and little issues here and there. She's left me stranded on the side of the road twice this year, and passing California smog gets harder and harder every year. Next time it happens, rather than sending her to the shop to get fixed the same day, I'd like to just take her home and fix any issues myself, but that means having another car.

I'm old enough to be past the modding phase I think, I've spent more on the MR2 than many of you have spent on your Coopers, but it's also been a 7 year ongoing project including 3 engines, 3 clutches, 2 flywheels countless tires, and no AC. I'd like to get a car that's already setup and a joy to drive. I'm sure I'll need to get used to sitting up a little straighter, and reaching a little farther for the shifter, but doubling my HP with a more forgiving front wheel drive will be nice. The thousands of options available are a blessing and a curse, but I think I've narrowed down the options I want, most of which will seem like luxury additions when compared to the MR2.

I had thought about going to one of the local car events this weekend to see/talk to some other Mini owners, but I think I'm pretty set on knowing what I want to get that will be better than the MR2, while still being that blast to drive that you all love. The only doubt I have is the spring rate. I have Ground Control's on the MR2 with custom rates that are rather stiff for daily driving, but not even close to stiff compared to some of the other MR2 owners I know. But the local Mini dealer reports on their website that they have a JCW mini in stock, so I might try that out for a drive to see how I like the ride. And then I have one other business question, what do the dealers want for a deposit to place an order?

Should it all come together, and I put enough miles on the Mini, I could end up meeting a lot of locals at Thunderhill Raceway in February.

The JCW should make you happy to begin with, although you may want to do some things either on order or after market mods. Think you are going to like what you see.

New Mini

I strongly recommend going forward

I just picked up my new toy yesterday. And I've had a number over the years - I'm an old fart.

Bought a 2008 MCS JCW CV Sidewalk edition.

I am past the modifications for the most part but will be purchasing winter wheels/tires as the run flats are a joke in the snow in Chicago.

Good luck and good hunting
