Just saying "HI!" and one question

Just wanted to say Hi, and thanks for all the info. This site is a wealth of knowledge. I got my 2010 Clubman S the day after Thanksgiving, and have racked up 2k miles already! I will be doing the lumbar support retro fit next week.

I have looked all over the site and can't find an answer to the following question; I drive mine about 1000 miles a week, and my company reimburses me for my mileage. so the better mileage I get, the more $$ i pocket. What mods can I do to get better mpgs? If i get more power too that would be a great bonus!

Thanks,

Ox

Hmmm. Whatever the mod would be to make sure you don't go over 60 mph. Fuel mileage drops drastically at speeds over 60. Self-discipline is almost futile with these fun cars, so going 60 is tough.

Certainly keeping speed down 60 to 65 would be good, keeping revs below 4000 rpm and easing your way there with a gentle push on the go pedal, trying to coast when ever possible, keep the tire pressures high, tuck in behind 18 wheelers on the highway and draft on them. These things will certainly help mileage. But they sure wouldn't be fun, don't think I could handle it, but good luck to you

Acceleration, idling, and high speed take a lot of fuel. (You can see this on your realtime fuel economy display.) Constant low speeds in higher gears require the least.

Watch for upcoming stoplights. If practicable in traffic, let off the gas pedal as soon as you know you are going to have to stop. Ease off, rather than braking and accelerating. Let other people pass you as they race to the next stop. They can grin because they passed a MINI Cooper, and you can grin because they are wasting gasoline as they hurry in order to stop, wait, and idle.

If you prefer a challenge to an adrenaline rush, if you have time, patience, and flat roads, then drive at 50 mph in sixth gear. Glance at that realtime display, and marvel.

Drivin 50-60 mph aint gonna cut it! I was just thinkin that gettin more air and a free-er exhaust would make it more efficient.
