I picked up my new Mini last week. It is a 2009 MCS 6speed Hardtop, Horizon Blue. I used the "cash for clunkers" to trade in my 1997 Ford SUV.

I am new to having a manual transmission in a car, so I am out every evening practicing my hill starts.

Congrats on your new MINI! I love mine and I find that it is one of the easiest manuals to drive that I have ever owned.

With the S I find that 2,000 rpm gives me a smooth launch. I also find that letting your left foot's heel rock on the floor (rather than floating only on the clutch pedal) lets me be more precise in releasing the clutch.

The hill hold on this car really helps those uphill starts. The brakes are held for about 2 seconds to give you time to let the clutch out. Happy Motoring!
