Red fluid leak/ console armrest issue
Red fluid leak/ console armrest issue
I bought a 2006 in April, with 6,300 original miles. It has been trouble-free, except I noticed a very slight red fluid leak on my garage floor. It seems to be located about dead center. I took it to the dealer, was told all fluids seemed to be topped off, but if anything, it would be transmission fluid or axle fluid. They put in a detecting dye, and I have to bring the car back, and leave it for a day. It is an automatic transmission. Any thoughts? Also, the factory armrest top underside plastic part seems to have some small pieces that broke off, so the top slides open when you flip up the armrest. Does anyone know if just the armrest itself is replaceable? If not, I'll just live with it.
If it is red it is automatic transmission fluid. Get the car back in & have them fix the leak. Hope you still are under warranty. Let us know how it turns out for you. Good luck.
Thanks. Luckily, I have a year left on the warranty. On the armrest issue, I called the dealer parts department, and the top cover is available for $87.00. They generally stock them, so that tells you something about the breakage frequency.
Armrest update
The good news is that the dealer stocks the armrest sliding top cover, and that it takes about a minute to pop the old one off, and the new one on. The bad news is that it costs $87.00, and is not considered a warranty replacement on a mint 2006 with 8k miles. Unless you are fanatical about fixing anything that breaks, a good fix would be to just glue the top shut, as opposed to being annoyed by having it slide backward every time you had to lift the armrest assembly up and back.
