Boom, all of a sudden a MINI in the garage

The past week I have been spending all my free time (and some at work) pouring though this forum and I must say a big thanks to everyone taking time to post all this MINI related information.

Although at the moment I am learning rather than being able to contribute I would hate to be just a lurker so I thought I would say hello and tell you how I came about buying a MINI.

When it comes to cars I consider myself quite conservative. As solid as I can get them, as for long as I can keep them.

Recently I was in the market for a small car to replace my trusted Nissan Micra which was involved in a hit and run accident.

I am not sure when the MINI came into the equation, perhaps when I realized that I could afford a used one but it became an obsession all of a sudden. I-just-had-to-get-a-MINI. Mid life crisis? At 45 I am at the right age I suppose.

Soon I had seen several and was about to go for a very clean red MINI ONE 1400cc but then this 1600cc came up.

The blond young lady selling it was asking for less money, it was my favorite British racing green and had the alloys I like on. So exited was this old boy that I sealed the deal on the spot ignoring some issues with this car.

So be it, I'll be giving it some TLC from now on because the blond was the kind that would drive with the muffler dragging on the termac throwing sparks without noticing.

Within one week from being vagely aware of the Minis on the roads to a stary eyed owner. When did this happen exactly? I don't know I am still dizzy but I tell you driving now is fun

Well, don't know for sure how you did it, but you've clearly got the fever!

Congratulations to you and your impulsivity to jump with both feet into the MINI pit--Enjoy the heck out of it!

Congratulations!! I was a happy owner of a BMW convertible one day and the next I was hanging around MINI dealerships and test driving MINI's. About a month after catching the fever I ordered my '09 MCS Convertible. I still can't explain how the fever was so quick!! I really enjoy driving the MINI. Enjoy your MINI!

This is it. Not much bling, the way I like it BRG and with my favorite alloys.

For the time being I have taken it to the shop to fix some problems which are not uncommon from what I read at the forum like the air bag light (only some new wires needed) the rear clogged sprinkler, the reversing light (faulty switch) and also new rear discs and pads (don't ask about the treatment of car by completely clueless former owner)

The one thing still not fixed is the rattle while idling, I thought it was the exhaust but I was told the whole engine shakes when revs are low and they will raise the idle a bit at the upcoming service. (Got to search the forum about that)

The power steering pump is whining perhaps it is on its way out.

In the near future I am thinking about painting the roof and mirror covers white and a very small chrome addition to the rear door handle. One could get carried away with chrome in MINIs but I want to have just enough. I have also added chrome rings on the speedometer and tachometer so that's about it for the interior.

Take care everyone

Nickos
