New member - MINI on short list for a new car

I'm an ... ah ... senior who's thinking "new car". The MINI is definitely on the short list. I couldn't really drive the original Mini (cause there wasn't enough room between the steering wheel and the door to lift my foot off the clutch). But I'm liking what I see (and read) with the new MINI.

I do have some questions, which I'll post in the proper section.

I've been around a number of marque-specific forums, and this one seems at least as good as any. Looking forward to spending some time here -- and, of course, if the MINI makes the final cut, I guess I'll be a regular here.

Hi Darryl! Welcome to the cult (unofficially, when you have the keys in your hand it'll be official).

It was the old bus-type steering wheel in the original Minis that I couldn't cope with. The new MINI has lots of room for my leg to work the clutch.

(Although I have given some thought to the automatic with the paddles on the steering wheel -- mostly so I can share driving duties on longer trips with some of my friends who are manual-transmission deficient.)

You could just post all of your questions here as well as in the different forums. That way you get the maximum number of possible responses. What else are you looking at and what are your questions? I did extensive research on all of the cars I looked at before buying my Mini, so I'd me more than happy to share my research.
