Young guy with a 77

Hey, Nick here. Ive got a white 1977 mini with a checkerboard roof. it hasnt run in a long time. it starts, but wont go into gear. i recently acquired it from my dad and id love to fix it up. the two of us have always had a mini obsession! heres an old picture of me and the mini from 6 years ago. how long it has been since it has ran!!!

very cool... I will warn you (as others can get a bit grouchy about it) I don't believe that your car is a 77. I'm sure it is titled a 77 but it looks to be a 80's car given the side markers (and I believe the wheel covers but I'm not sure on that.) As I said, some whine about it (not so much here but if you head over to the MiniMania site you may run into the purests who can be a little touchy) as the original importer likely swapped the VIN with an older car to get it through customs and such (which is technically illegal.)

Anyway enough of that. Very cool car. There is a classic mini thread here on NAM that you should post to as well as I would suggest checking out the MiniMania site. Great little cars to work on. I can say mine is a constant learning experience. The Classic community is very supportive and helpful for the asking so have at it.

^ cool. yes, we suspected it was only imported as a 77 for importation/tax/insurance purposes. it was also sold as a "1977 morris mini mascot" which... apparantly doesnt exist, and even if it did... this isnt one. i just say "77 mini" because its old and i like to convey that. i WISH i knew the exact year so i could find info on it easier and faster!

oh well, all confusion aside, i hope to get it running sometime soon! im off to go open the hood now!
