has anyone figured out the VIN#'s I thought I saw a post that had it broken down? as you can tell I have nothing better to do with my time??

 

found a partial list
1st 3 digits - WMW = BMW/Mini
4-7 digits - MF93 = JCW (USA) 2nd gen, (have alist of others)
8th digit - ?
9th - check digit
10th - model yr 200#
11th - assembly plant (T = Oxford)
last 6 digits - Production Sequence

 

The last 6 don't seem to be just a sequence, you can tell what model's what by it, or at least the "TIS" (electronic shop manual) can tell what's what by the last 6.

eg TL68xx seem to be Coopers (07) and TL69xx seem to be Cooper-Ss.

 

Here is what the BMW/MINI guy told me when he called today.
1st three numbers are the manufactures code = WMW MINI Division
the next five numbers are the Chassis Identification
he wasn't really sure of the 9th numbers meaning
the 10th = Model yr 200#
11th = Production Plant T = Oxford
12th is the Model number
and the last 5 are the Production series numbers

Now if I can just find a good use for this info ?? as you might be able to tell I am waiting on my MINI to get here..mid June if things go right!!

 

I was just wondering what the other codes were for the 4-7 digit range?
