Sheesh. Figures.
Last I heard from Global was "late May" for production date and when I called ASK-MINI today and talked to someone, she tried to tell me that the car was "probably" in production, but since she didn't have a VIN to give me, I figured she was making stuff up...
It's strange how different the responses I have gotten from the 3 or 4 folks I've talked to at ASK-MINI. It's almost like they're all looking at different data sources or something. Oh, well. Patience is a virtue. Or something.

I turn 50 this last year, parked my 6 mo. old H2 HUMMER and got me a MINI? oh did yeah I put a 6" lift and 37" tires on the HUMMER when I got it. so people kinda give me the what happened look? But I love the mini. so I had to order me a JCW now I am waiting on it to come in. trading in the other MINI

Boy, how aggravating. Have you checked with your MA at Global? They have alot more info than you and I can get at the Owner's Lounge. They were able to see when the parts came together and when they actually assembled the car.
I did not even realize that I had a VIN number until I went to the OL and checked profile and the VIN was there about two days later. Global was able to see the exact date it was built.
I assume that you have previously received the email from MINI with the production number needed to set up the Owner's Lounge.

Glad I am not the only one to get bitten by the MINI bug. My wife STILL can't belive that the BMW 3 series is sold to make room for a MINI. She thinks I have totally lost it.
Oh, yeah. I've been on OL since the day after I submitted the order.
So, traded VMs with my MA today. Hopefully by the end of this week, he'll have a VIN to give me. 4 weeks seems like a long wait from order in to production date assigned... Too many unknowns with the whole dealer production slot switcheroo. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I got an email from my MA today advising me that the car had been produced but the OL still shows it scheduled for production. I read in another blog that the OL gets out of date pretty quickly.
I hope they get this resolved for you. As a larger dealer Global often reconfigures one of thier allotments to match. I wonder if they gave you a slot that was too close to production and it was too late to reconfigure it to your specs?
Wow, how did you outfit the JCW (color/options etc.)? Your experience from Hummer to MINI should go a long way to dispell the "MINI's are for chicks" slams!
Well, I just wanted to check in with those of you that helped me through my formative posts as my MINI mania progressed through its various phases. I picked up "Dudley" [named by wife and daughter] June 3rd.
I sold the BMW convertible for a good price to an appreciative new owner the same day my MINI went into production.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the MINI - even more than I expected - and it is truly a blast to drive. Thanks to all of you that recognized the symptoms and that the only cure was to own/drive a MINI! I am still looking for excuses to drive - like I did when I was 16!!
Happy Motoring!!!

gawannamini,
I am happy for you. I too got bit a few months back. My wife was pretty supportive of the desire for a Mini although she had a hard time understanding why I would be willing to give up my 06 Infiniti G35 Coupe 6MT Black on Black 19" Forged Rims. It had everything but NAV. I never tired of owning, driving and looking at the G (especially after it was polished up really nice).
I have never owned a convertible and after I sold my motorcycle earlier this year, I really wanted something to replace the feel of the open road. My wife and I talked about the possibility of me selling my car and she was ok with it as long as I did not have to put more money into a new car. the other part of the bargain was I had to sell my car first before buying another car.
I listed the G back in April and got some offers, but since I did not know what I really wanted and I really loved my G, I told myself that I was going to stick to my guns. I turned down several early offers. Back in May I was passing by a VW dealer and they had an 06 MCS Conv on the lot. I dropped in and took it for a spin. That was it. As much as I liked my G, the Mini Conv was a whole different experience. The VW sales guy asked me what I was looking to do and I told him that the only way I would walk out with the MCS was to do a straight up trade. After some back and forth the closest we got required me to trade my car and write a check for 3 grand more. Needless to say, I walked away.
After that experience, I decided to get more agressive with my G35 listing and bring down the advertised price to get more bites. Well I finally sold the G last week and got just about what I wanted. It was a local sale and there is a good chance that I may see the G around town.
The weeks leading up to selling my car, I had been scanning Autotrader and Craigslist pretty heavily. I told myself that I really ought to consider some other convertibles, specifically, an older M3 E36 or 02 E46 M3 or even a 330CiC. Some friends told me that I might miss the 300 horses on the G35 and that an M3 would be a equivalent replacement in terms of HP.
Well long story short 4 days after selling my car, I found a 08 Lightning Blue MCS convertible in Autotrader and Craigslist. I was psyched. It was pretty close by. My son and I went over to see it and talk with the owner. We test drove it and I handed over a deposit.
I go to pick up the MCS convertible tomorrow. I am very excited to be a part of the club and to creating and sharing experience with all of the enthusiasts on-line and in and around Charlotte, NC.

The MINI convertible is about as close to a motorcycle as you can get yet it will cruise all day on the interstate with semis all around and is very stable. I can't tell much difference between my E46 323 BMW convertible and the MINI when I am on the interstate. Both are rock solid.
I have had convertibles for 30 years and the MINI is an exceptional one with a stiff chassis and excellant top (all BMW). Note how the windows drop a fraction of an inch when you open the door. BMW has been doing this for years. When you close the door the window cranks up a bit and locks the glass in place for a tight seal. I have never had a wind leak or a drop of water come through on any of the 3 BMW convertibles I have owned.
OK, now that you are a MINI owner check out this link that has the entire 8 minute Italian Job chase scene. Wouldn't want to buy any of the MINI's used in filming this movie! Congrats!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa04ezGMJ2c
GAWANNAMINI & EYESTEALTH,
Congrats on the new rides! I went from a HP Beast to a MINI & couldn't be happier. I traded a 2006 Dodge Magnum R/T 5.7 Hemi, 375HP, AWD, Nav, DVD Satellite radio, sunroof, dual-zone control, all leather, etc. etc. for a 2006 JustACooper with Manual, Nav & Premium. No regrets at all, as the MINI is easily 5X the fun in the driving experience zone. Yeah, I cannot blow the doors off most vehicles like I could in the Magnum, but nobody can hang with me in the corners. Something about going around a 90 degree turn at 50 mph & accelerating out that gives me grins & goosebumps every time! Family & friends were questioning my sanity until I gave them a ride or let them drive it themselves. My next door neighbor, who was a nature-girl Prius driver traded her 1 year old Prius in on a new MINI Clubman after she became infected with the MINI-fever. Happy Motoring & don't forget the wave.
