Gearbox type

Hi All,
This my first post in NAM. I currently own a 2002 Cooper with only superficial modifications (aero body kit, foam air filter). After reading many NMA posts I am very concerned about my midlands transmission and was thinking about converting to a 2002 cooper S.

The question is how durable are the early Cooper S gearboxes? and just to confirm these are 5 speed Getrag gearboxes correct?

All "S" gearbox are Getrag 6-speed, not 5-speed. Some have converted JustaCoopers to 6-speed Getrag, I think theres a how-to here on Alliance Magazine? Only differences is improved gearing for 05-06 gearbox. But all of the 6-speeds have been durable.
