Playing iPhone music???

I have an '08 Cooper S and purchased the bluetooth/ipod accessory (I did not get the NAV system). The accessory connection is found below my dashboard. When I first took delivery last summer, I could play music from my iPhone through the speakers and the playlists were displayed on the dashboard. However, sometime in the recent past, I have not been able to play music (the phone feature through the speaker system works fine). The playlists still display, but no music can be heard. I took it to the dealership yesterday and they told me that it must be a software change with iPhone. I am still using the 2G version of iPhone. Do I need to upgrade to the 3G phone? What can I do to play music through my speakers? Thanks for any help!

I've never heard of any software changes breaking music playback. Besides, the audio just comes in through the AUX port from the line out connector anyways.

I'd try connecting another audio source up to the Aux jack and see if you got any music that way.

If that works, then you know the car is fine and you can limit the problem to either the iPhone or the cable.

thanks for the response. I can use a regular ipod on the aux jack and the music is fine. Unfortunately, I get no music when I plug in the iphone and I can't figure out why

first thing I would do is reset the iphone (hold home + power until it goes black and the apple logo appears).

When you did the normal ipod was it just using a 1/8 cable in the aux jack or did you use normal ipod/iphone dock cable? I also don't think software would make a difference since when you connect the ipod/iphone to the MINI the sound is comming directly from the phones line out from the dock connector and then split in the y cable to the MINI aux in jack. I guess it is possible your phone dock could be broken. Try your iPhone in any other kind of thing that gets the sound from the dock connector and see what happend. If you can get back to the dealer try the iphone in one of there other cars to see if works.
