Whirring noise when turing under accelleration
Whirring noise when turing under accelleration
My 2005 MCS produces a whirring sound when accellerating with the wheel turned. For example, when pulling away from a curb, accellerating up a winding road up a hill etc. Basically any situation when the car is accellerating and turning at the same time. The steeper the hill (i.e. harder the engine is working to accellerate) the louder the noise. It's worst when in reverse gear.
It's a low frequency whirring / moaning sound which sounds rotational (has a repetitive nature) and the frequency is directly related to the accelletation.
My mechanic took it for a drive and having heard the noise went to do some research on various service bulletins. His diagnosis is that it's relatied to the limited slip differential transmission (6-speed manual) and that the problem may be corrected by a transmission oil change. He said he's seen similar issues on some Subaru transmissions which went away after the oil was changed and had some time to work its way through after some driving.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
