I don't understand you people!
You can join City Car Share, that has Berkeley and Oakland locations.
http://www.citycarshare.org/miniconv.do
You can be up and running in a MINI in a couple days.
You can "rent" the MINI convertible for as long as you want, even overnight. A four hour use might cost you about $30. A two hour joyride might cost you about $20 or less.
That's what I did. In fact it is what convinced me to get a convertible.
They also have hard top MINIs for use.
All better than staring at a screen-saver.
You could even take BART from Pleasanton to the Rockridge stop or Berkeley to hop into a MINI.

This is a matter of much serious weight,
how to survive the elongated MINI wait;
Oh I wish I could give you pearls of wisdom,
but alas for that I'm in the land of Puzzledom;
For on that fateful day I did not to my MA speak
of colors and packages and options I didst seek;
No, I could not bring myself to anticipation coddle,
I wanted it straightaway, & bought the floor model.

That was great, made me chuckle out loud.
I actually came back to the thread specifically to give
Really, kudos for your creativity, Red Dragoon.
I'm in the home stretch, but the wait has been difficult. Especially because I've been without a car since mid-January and have been riding the bus to and from work every day. What fun!
This site definitely helps pass the time, and I've learned quite a bit about the car in the meanwhile.
Tracking my ship, the Aida, has been fun, but the "blackouts" kinda wear on me a little. Am I obsessive? Me? Nah!
The journey thus far: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=149533

Trying waiting for the Sport Package... earliest possible production is December. Then who knows how long after that for shipping and delivery to South Bay MINI. That's torture! I hold out some hope that they'll go faster, just for me..... but i know that won't happen. God help me!
