Well my grandfather has driven Beetles, little Hondas and then went to the MINI with a manual tranny [since he has always driven manual transmission cars.]

He loves that car, but grandma does not like it [she said all the ladies flirt with him when he is driving around.] He is 87, she is 86. They have been married since 1941. Guess that is the way it goes. Grandpa rolls the way he rolls.

In his defense, I don't think he bought the MINI as a babe magnet, although he does seem to wave to a lot to women [only] when he is in his car.

Elby,

My aunt is 73 and she wants one. She has a Honda and she loves it but she wants something fun. I told her to get one. And I'm telling you - if ya want one, get one. Have a blast and enjoy it.

Hope to see ya on the road motoring.

Joe

There is a gentleman here who drives a silk green coupe. He's probably somewhere around the original poster's age, and I see him driving this car, nearly every day.

He never waves. Not this man. He nods his head in a sort of graceful recognition and then goes right on about his business. The car is in good shape, and you can tell... it's like his child. He and his car sort of become one when he's behind the wheel.

Also....

You're never too old, and after one test drive, you'll know what to do.

I look forward to hearing tales of your new MINI adventures.

I just wanted to add, that if you think the car might be too sporty for you... get the automatic and don't use sport mode on the car. When you drive the car in it's normal mode, without the sport button engaged, it drives like a luxury sedan.

Get a MINI. Maybe red or yellow. Stripes. Load it with every option you can. Get a funny vanity plate. Drive just fast enough so your neighbors frown at you. Both of you start modding it. Come to the events. You will soon be 65 and 63 respectively.

Thanks for your help. I like your reply...the green is great! My first English car was in British Racing Green.

I've only driven 400 miles on my Clubman, and already my age has reversed 20 years.

We have had so many great replies.....seems as though the Mini recalls the addage that you are only as old as you feel. Thanks for the reply. Our son will get his new coupe next week, and we are almost there in placing our order for a Clubman S.

Way to go Elby!! Chili Red is a great color. It won't be long and you and your beautiful bride will be diddie boppin about town with grins on your faces and enjoying the ride. May you have many trouble free miles and many new adventures along the way.

Just in case you haven't been there yet, visit the Chili Red Clubman Owner's Club:

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=142172.

Lots of pix to inspire you as you decide things like roof and C-pillar color, to stripe or not to stripe (go for it!), and interior options. The galleries are great, too. And promise us you'll post your own snaps once you get delivery, okay?

Chilli Red for sure! And I'd say if you're in your 70's and haven't had a MINI yet you're overdue for one! You've driven 'normal' cars enough! My Mom & Dad are 70 & 73. Dad likes driving my MINI, with the top down and my loud exhaust!

Hope you do it, and hope you enjoy the heck out of it!

Well, good luck with the new MINI and welcome to the community!
I know I won't be too old for my MINI until I'm deep in the cold, cold ground and even then I probably won't be since I'd like to be buried in it!

What? What did I say? I agree ... British Racing Green is very classy. But that doesn't mean that Chili Red is not an excellent choice.

Actually, I have a theory that I'll be able to enjoy MINI's in the next life ... without having to be buried in it. Revelations 21:1 says that there is going to be "a new heavens and a new earth." So if there's going to be a new earth, then maybe there will be a chance for a new MINI!

But perhaps I digress ...

Will there be even more twisties in that new earth, even here in the Midwest? A Dragon within a day's drive of all? Please give us hope!

Elby,
As the oldest member of Middle Georgia Minis, I was hoping you may live in the area. I could use some help keeping the "whippersnappers"in our group under control. Be sure to keep in touch with every one and check out how to keep track of you car on it's trip to your dealer. If your ever in the central Ga. area be sure to go to our web site on the club section and we'll
buy your dinner>
