From build to order
From build to order
Hi:
I just sent my build to the dealer by e-mail and contacted him by phone also. He acknowledged receiving it and was putting together the order information. That was Friday around 12:00. Since I have never ordered a car by this process, and I do not want to appear impatient - I want to ask the forum. How long do I wait, before I phone and ask when can we complete the order? Your help is appreciated I don't want to appear rude or inconsiderate.
Thanks
sika

Sitting down with your MA face to face with a deposit in hand should speed the order placement. With us that was about 45 minutes. A physical customer will always come first. Be aware that your dealer may be building an order against a future production allocation, that was our case.
With a production number comes the assignment comes a production week. That week may shift forward or backwards by a week (based on current observations). Your MA will be able to give you a estimate of wen you are likely to see the car.
From what I have been able to gleen for the other build week support groups, the build takes 6 days, 10 days to get on a ship, 9 days in transit, 5 days from the NYCVDC to an area dealer, obvously longer to the south and west coast.
Hope that answers your question.

It all depends on the Dealer on the wait time, some dealers, like mine, have enough new orders in the "pipeline" that they can just re-configure your car into the pipeline order and then I think the best wait time is only about 5-6 weeks on the east coast. I hear though some very long wait times on the west coast or from Dealers that just don't have a very high monthly allotment of cars coming in. Unfortunately your MA has the best idea about that. Ordering is OK and there are just a couple of things I would like to have that I don't now (Bluetooth, rear fogs, maybe LSD), I gave up on it and just buy off the floor now, but my dealer also keeps a few low-optioned models coming in which is how I like my MINIS.
Thanks for the answers. I'll call and tell him I would like to come by and finalize the deal with a deposit. I am not too concerned about the pipeline, but I just want to make everything official. I don't mind waiting, I just want to know what to expect next. My main goal is to just have the order in. Appreciate your thoughts and advice. Thanks again.
