All Aboard the ISOLDE
I'm finally getting a bit excited. My car was listed as at VDC a day ago, and my MA told me that it's on a truck now, and should be up in Seattle on Sunday. So hopefully I'll get to picking it up on Monday or Tuesday.
So we picked up our 08 MCS last night from our dealer, Bob Smith Calabasas. Overall process took about an hour from start to finish. My fiance and I drove off with our new car and spent most of the night getting acquainted with all of the mini's features. So far so good; it's such an awesome car. The motor feels very healthy and responsive. I've been shifting through the gears to about 4500 rpm to break the motor in. Should be a fun 1200 miles.
I paired our cell phone to the car's bluetooth feature and it worked great. However, after driving through the canyons we weren't able to get it connected again. I tried "re-pairing" the phone with the system, but to no avail. Any ideas?
dphouse, I believe there are several threads under NAM>2nd Gen MINIs>Navigation & Audio that deal with bt pairing.
Unfortunately, No call from the dealer for me yet. That's OK, I'm falling back in love with my Z28 convertible again.
It's ironic. Except for the Corvette, the Z28 (and Trans Am) was GMs quickest car back in 1994. But I looked up 0-60 and 1/4 mile times the other day. The MCS is only 0.3 sec slower than Z28 for 0-60, and the MCS is 0.2 sec *faster* than the Z28 in the quarter mile! Amazing. The Z28 actually does have a go-carty feel, but in a bad way compared to the MCS -- super twitchy steering, very hard ride, and it feels like it's right on the edge of swapping ends whenever I'm on the power.
Scary. I did opt for the high tech (in 1994) ABS system so it does stop well though.OK, you guys all have new cars and don't care anything about this. So I'll stop prattling on. The good news is my Dad is offering me room in his garage to save my garage queen. I really don't like the idea of selling an almost new $38k 1994 car for the $5k Edmunds says it is worth. (I made the mistake of looking at the sales paperwork the other day.) So I'm thinking about keeping both the Z28 and MCS. Lets see, 3 cars, 1 truck, 3 motorcycles, 1 scooter...for two people, that's not gluttony, is it? Or maybe it is over the top. I need to think about this.
First off, congratulations to all! Enjoy you new MINIs!

Great pics, thanks for sharing! I loved the flowers on the car. Nice touch.
So for all you new MINI owners, was it hard to go to sleep the night you picked up your baby? I should get mine any day now and I am already imagining how hard it will be to leave the car and go in the house, haha.

Sleep...not much...too much excitement!
I can't believe how long we had to wait to get our cars, but it is so worth it!!!
I am still waiting on mine, but it will still get to me at least two weeks before the original time frame (5/29). They told me eight weeks and emphasized that it was pretty accurate. I thought there would be no chance of me getting it before my b-day (May 20th) and now I will!
Soon to be joining you in lack of sleep/joy department!

Owners lounge shows my car sitting at the dealer but still no contact from the dealership! :( I kinda hope my MA has been sick the past few days and that is the reason I haven't been called or emailed back. Hopefully tomorrow she'll be home in our garage!
Mine says 'At Your Mini Dealer' too. My MA told me it takes a little while from arrival at the dealer (Scottsdale, AZ) til when I can pick up it because apparently they don't arrive with thew windows tinted already etc. I sent him an email to see if I can get a date this week. If I hear anything AEM I'll post.
Side note to everyone. I'm having my dealer look into installing the portable GPS device's mount/power only without the head unit. The MINI unit is made by Garmin and acts just like the ones you buy at Best Buy. I already have the Nuvi 350 and it could save me a chunk of change by only have the mount installed and not harming the warranty by letting them do it. Happy Motoring.

But, if yours was getting stuff done at the VDC, then it might take longer, as mine didn't have anything put on at the VDC (I think).
I wonder if that is the holdup on mine. I ordered a few extras, like an alarm, not sure if that is installed there... Anyway, even though I want my car it is kind of exciting waiting. Unlike the wait while on the ship (which was harder), I know it is in Cali and that any day they will call me. I wake up with a smile on my face and an eager feeling inside.
Don't worry. Once the MINI Flux Capacitor gets installed at the dealer you can just go back and give yourself the car seconds after you handed over the deposit to the dealer. My MA is out of the office until tomorrow afternoon. It could be sitting there ready and they won't tell me b/c apparently buyers can only work with their original MA. I'm keeping my finger crossed for the 15th. Sorry to hear about yours MINISV. I am sure the added features are worth the wait.
Since my MA still has not gotten back to me I called the receptionist and she acknowledged that my MA is there and wasn't able to give me a status on if the car is there or not because only my MA can check that. I left my MA a message but still no return phone call yet!
Hi All,
I've been watching this thread for a week or so now, as my MINI was on the Isolde. I thought I'd chime in now for those from the Phoenix area who are awaiting news on their MINI. I spoke with my MA today and my car (and I assume yours, too) arrived to the dealer today! The only aftermarket stuff I'm having done is adding mirror caps and window tint and my car will be available for pickup tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon. I'm sure your wait isn't much (if any) longer than that.
I'm now giving myself permission to be excited
.
Have fun with your new rides everyone....

Did you call you MA yet? Mine arrived in tacoma yesterday, and i'm waiting on a phone call to confirm I can pick it up finished tonight. I would assume yours is there too since they were on the same boat, and I doubt they'd want to send multiple trucks.
But, if yours was getting stuff done at the VDC, then it might take longer, as mine didn't have anything put on at the VDC (I think).

I just got a call a few minutes ago. My car is in.
Whew! The owners' lounge still says it's at the VDC.My MA asked if I could wait until Sunday to pick up because he has a very high workload right now. I volunteered to wait until next week. So, Wednesday, May 21 I'll go get WIKIMINI. I think If I would have insisted, I could have gotten it during the latter part of this week.
Now I need to decide whether or not to get the clearbra. $800. Anybody else getting that? Anybody decided not to get it?
Frupp, there is a sticky at the top of this forum showing what goes on at the VDC. They do all sorts of repairs at the VDC including major body damage. If the damage exceeds 3% of the value of the car they inform you. I believe all dealer options are done at the dealership.
Drummergirl, did you get the factory-installed alarm system or did you order it as a dealer-installed accessory? If the latter, it may be at the dealer but they're not telling you because of the install time. I know when we got Lo-Jack on Mrs. ()()=='s car, it took 2-3 days.
Have fun, all!
