New here, with MCS Q's :)

Hi all, this forum seems like to be a great place to hang out. My name is Sacha, I'm a hardcore VW fanatic/owner, and found this place on www.vwvortex.com.

But in the last couple of weeks, my GF been bugging me that she wants a convertible Mini, at first, I was like, "yeah, right, just like i'm gonna drive a chicks car". But now, guess what, friggen love the look of the car

Since the closes dealer is 5 hours away, friday we are driving down to Montréal for some road test, and by reading the feedbacks, I know I will love driving the car, so is my GF. If it all goes well, we will order a 2008 MCS convertible, pepper white, black leatherette, black bonnet stripes, platinum package and Navi. I'd rather have a sidewalk Ed. but the GF hate the brown interior

One newbie question, does the JCW option worth the extra 5900$. Seems a lot of $$$ for the little HP it gives. Please gimme some advice on that one, I dont mind going with after market parts later on if people tell me the JCW is not worth it. Cause if it's not worth it, I will take the LSD option.

Thx a lot for you all in advance

i'm confused....is the car for you or your gf? because it sounds like you're buying the car for her....... and i believe whoever is paying for the car should be making the decisions.

Car will be for both of us, but my guess is she will be the one that will mostly drive it I would prefer the white/sidewalk edition, but she wants pepper white/black interior, so I can live with that afterall!!

As for the JCW option, that would be for me, because my GF dont really care about the x-tra power. But 5900$ seems like a lot of money for 30 hp. I guess a good test drive between the S and JCW should give me a good idea.

Don't get the JCW, if you're willing to go aftermarket. It can all be done cheaper and better!

Simple mods like a pulley, intake, exhaust, tune, will yield gains much higher than JCW. If you want to spend the whole $5900 that you would spend on the JCW, you can get a ton of go-fast goodies for the car and have well over 200 hp to the wheels.

Check out the Drivetrain forum, and you'll learn a ton!

Go after market, because she my not like the way it handles or drives and you can sell the parts if it doesn't work out.

Don't do it man. If your relationship goes south, you'll be stuck with a car you'll hate every time you look at it

Get a car you like, let her get a car she likes. You'll both be happier in the long run.

I will, test driving the car tomorrow

But I was looking the prices in the USA, and my god, I might have to go down the border to buy the Mini, I would be saving a good 10 000$, since our dollar is par with the US.

A fully loaded Convertible Cooper S with Navi is 42 300$ CDN, and the same car in the USA is 33 000$ USD

Gotta pay 5% at customs, and the car needs to be inspected here. Pretty simple actually. The only downside, the warranty wont be honored I think.

That seems like it would be worth it then, I bet they would honor the warranty in the US. Just a guess though.

We should take delivery of our Audi S4 Avant pretty soon, so at the worst case scenario, i'll just keep the Audi

Oh so so true! Many years ago when with my former husband I needed a truck. We lived in the country 35 miles from Denver. I had to commute. "We" had a Jeep CJ7 with AWD. So, of course I didn't need to spring for the 4 wheel drive on the truck. He was gone less than a six months later, the end of a 10 year relationship. Everytime I drove that truck in the snow I cursed him again!

Well, it's ordered

Convertible Cooper "S", Pepper white, sidewalk package and I took the LSD option. Black bonnet stripes, 3M clear bra and driving lamps will be installed at the dealer once they get it.

The production should start in the first week of May, and I should take delivery in end of June.

Let's the wait begin

Sounds great! You know, I saw a Sidewalk on my dealer's website with black leather w/white piping. It still had the steering wheel and shifter in malt brown.

I love our Sidewalk in all its eye-catching Malt Brown. You will too!
