Hello from m8o
I'm looking to buy an R56S as fuel efficient but quick & fun daily driver. My chosen handle starts with R56 because that's what I'm looking to get, next letter to denote 'S' garb (an another covered shortly). The rest is pronounced Mmm-Eight-Ohh, phonetically my last name ..., not as the letter & number combo of the M80 [M-Eighty] firecracker.
Conveniently, my 1st name does start with an 'S' too, so the 's' in the middle works out very nicely.
I'm heavily in the research phase. Yes, search is my friend. I promise not to post any "what ____ should I get" threads ... or at least not until reading everything there is to read and still not seeing a determining point covered I need.
I've looked through dozens of threads already. Whether to get the sunroof was question #1; with that whether white or black roof too. It took a while but I think I finally found the best thread that covered just what the weight is. I'm pretty sure based on what I read here and learned @ the NYC car show, it's from 75lbs or less (counting the steel removed); so maybe. And anyone with experience with both cars says they don't notice the black roof heat the car up any more than white.
Then, wondering & researching if I should do the JCW engine/air/exhaust upgrade, JCW suspension, or sport suspension. But thinking now either none of it, or just the JCW suspension. I'll probably pick and choose aftermarket goodies after a while for the engine and/or suspension if I don't do the JCW.
Regarding "my taste" in modz... I upgraded my MB C43 to a E55 engine, euro interior goodies for nav to give me things like video in dash (while moving; not that I watch video, just play DVD concerts for the sound), and did a stupid expensive truly one-off custom suspension (only one other like it in the world on the guy's car who made it) with adjustable spring perches, dual adjustable Penske 8100 racing shocks, and all rear links replaced with steel adjustable ones. So, I know an immediate ultimate handling suspension does not need to be rock hard (if dual or even triple adjustable, with the dampening envelope properly selected for the car) to provide unreal turn-in, and in-turn responsiveness. Trouble for me would be tho, I didn't do the research, someone else did. Knowing what the front & rear rates and shock dampening envelope needs to be will be time I don't want to devote. So the JCW suspension seems 'smart' in that sense. Putting Penske 8100s on the R56 would result in a ride that could be as supple as the stock suspension, but more responsive under load than the JCW; I'm really sure tho I don't have the time to pick the right springs and valving tho, so I guess not...
I'm still keeping my hot-rodded up 1st real car bought new of my adult life (only gotten in my mid 30s about 10 years ago; a slow 'bloomer'); after putting over $20K into it on modz, it doesn't pay for me to sell it. And it's probably got another few hundred thousand miles of life to give, even though I always drive it like I stole it every time I take it out...
As a picture's worth a thousand words, all about my mobile world can be surmised under here...

Birth of my C55, SpeedyBenz on Board and MBenzNL on Board are the most explanatory galleries showing what I like... Hope you enjoy.
