Question about buying

Hope someone can give me an answer to this.

I left a $1000 deposit and ordered a Mini. The out the door price as salesman stated was $28000 plus about $250 tag and fees. I initialed the order form. Then he comes back with "Buyer's Order" that added $599.00 "Documentary Fee". I signed that. (yeah, I know I'm a fool). Now I'm waiting for delivery.

Now I see the $599.00 "Documentary Fee" is more than anyone has been charged, as far as my research here at NAM has been. I live in Florida.

Can I still negotiate when I go to pick up the car?

Ouch. Personally, I'd find another dealer. FWIW, MINI of Dallas only charges a $50 doc fee. For that extra $549 your dealer is charging you could fly to Dallas and drive it home.

As long as you haven't signed the final papers, and no money has changed hands, RUN somewhere else.

every delaership has different doc fees. We have 399, but a ford delaership down the road is 599 and i think the mazda place near us is 699. But some places don't charge much for doc fees, but they charge a "clean-up" fee or "Pre-delivery inspection fee", or stuff like that. Be wary of anything you have to pay that the dealership HAS to do to your car. The car has to be PDI'd or it wouldn't run correctly and the radio wouldn't work or have the suspension blocks removed. And Clean-up, come on. Some dealerships wave certain "fees" to seem like your getting a discount, so def. shop around.

Yep, time to renegotiate. Prepare for a battle (or just cancel, and go to another dealer!)
