Do I buy a '06 or '07?

Hi everybody,
I don't have a mini yet but I'm looking. I was considering either a '06 or '07 S Model. Are there any major reasons why I should buy a '07 over a '06? Any input is welcomed.

Thanks,
kingtk

Search on "R53 R56" and you'll see this has been discussed many times. There are many arguments on either side, but you ought to drive both and decide for yourself which you prefer.

Yes, that is the break between the first generation MINI and second generation. Lots and lots of differences.

If you have never owned another MINI, you will probably be happyiest with and R56.

We can go back and forth on this one all day, I've driven both, and they are both great cars for different reasons. After test driving both in "Stock" form, I went with the R56. My impression was that it was more refined, smoother, faster, and gets better gas mileage. The R53 felt like it handled quicker and had better road feel. Since I have modded mine, the handling has improved tremendously, not that it was terrible before. You can pretty much modify the R53 and R56 till the cows come home, that's the great thing about the Mini, there are a ton of aftermarket parts to personalize your car to your own taste. So either one you get, I think you'll be happy.

The bottom line is save yourself a lot of trouble, go drive both cars (extensively) and see which one fits your driving style and needs. You will know which one after your test drives.

It also depends on what you want it for. Daily driver is easy--R56 all the way; its a great car, and a bit easier to live with day to day. If you want something a bit rawer, than take a look at the R53 as well.

Both are great cars, with different personalities--it really depends on what floats your boat.

when I was looking to buy I had same problem. When i saw both in person I liked 07 interior better but the outside looks of 06 sealed the deal. I also bugged every Mini owner I ran across asking questions-every single Mini owner i spoke to was really nice and accomidating. Iffin you see someone just ask em in person...you can't go wrong either way you choose!

If it was me I can't think of one reason to buy a 2007 because I wholeheartedly prefer the 1st generation MINI but for each person that decision is a very subjective one so as others have said, go test drive both & make the decision based on your preferences
