The Long Road
The Long Road
I suppose introductions are in order, especially after so much time lurking here, and so many years of wanting a MINI.
I don't recall when I first saw the MINI, but I believe our first test drive was in 2003. The MA was super cool and obviously patient as he would see us several more times over the years. We weathered indecision, job changes, and buying our first home along the way, but the time was never quite right for the beautiful little car.
Somewhere along the way, our desire turned to convertibles. Well, my wife wasn't sold on either hardtop or convertible, preferring more practical vehicles such as Civics and the (lowly) Prius. Of course, it was her desire that put us in our current vehicle, a big giant SUV.
In February of last year, ready at last (or resigned at last in my wife's case) we headed to the dealer. To our dismay the MSRP selling price had been replaced by a $2000 market adjustment. (Our original super cool MA was no longer MAing). That summer we visited two other dealers a few hundred miles away from home.
Our local dealer has since dropped the markup policy, but the nice MA we met this summer has been attentive and helpful. We are back up in his area for the day, ready to give our deposit as soon as the last lingering doubts are removed. As you might guess, the doubts are not lingering with me.
By the way, the build is a Sparkling Silver Sidewalk S convertible, manual, with LSD, chrono, and a few other odds and ends.
Sorry for the long first post. I've enjoyed all of your stories, advice and tips, obsessive passion, and the unique sense of community you all bring to this forum. I hope to join you soon.
