R-56 Turbo Malfunction

After 2500 miles my turbo blew up. A screw worked it's way loose and just destroyed the turbo charger. South Bay Mini was right on top of replacing it and also giving me a free BMW rental to drive while the repairs were being made.

When it happened, it sounded like a popoff valve had blown. The engine diagram came on the screen in orange. That means drive to the dealership asap at reduced speed.

How were your driving when it happened? (high revs, racing, idle)

Funny you should ask. I had just installed the Alta Turbo intake hose. I was not driving fast, just starting from a stop, but I did not hit it hard. The dealer said the hose had no effect on the turbo, but asked that I remove the hose anyway although I have kept the Alta Air Cleaner on the engine. PS, I am selling the intake hose.

Good to hear your dealer didn't give you any grief about the intake hose. I wonder if your turbo was the first to go, what a story!

How much are you selling the hose for and what color is it? Your best bet would be to post here.

Thank you. It has already sold. The turbo had a problem internally. A screw inside back itself out and then it got caught in the turbo and the rest is history. It was a strange coincidence that it happend just as I had put on the Inlet Hose. Nevertheless, I do not feel like pushing my luck. The car is plenty fast. The Alta air cleaner made a noticable difference.
