New Mini S owner - well almost...

Just ordered my Mini S for a daily driver. Couldn't resist as they are so fun to drive.

Ordered just about everything (seems like it) but passed on the JCW stuff. Any comments on JCW performance - worth the price of admission?

Thanks,
Kevin

Congrats on your order!!!

As far as the JCW stuff, it really depends on which items you're considering. There's the various interior trimmings, various exterior trimmings, steering wheel, wheels, suspension and engine kit.

The most popular items seem to be the suspension and engine kit. Now for them being worth it, it all depends on your priorities. The stage 1 does result in a healthy boost in performance, is priced pretty reasonably and there are no warranty concerns. Now much more power can be had from the aftermarket, but you risk future warranty issues and have to go through the hassle of finding a reputable installer (most MINI dealers won't touch aftermarket parts).

The JCW suspension has been highly praised. Also for what it gives, the price is damn good. Only issue is if you're looking to lower your MINI, it only results in a hardly noticeable 0.4" drop.

JCW wheels I wouldn't recommend at all. Although they look great, they weight a ton and are highly overpriced. Much better options can be had from the aftermarket and it gives you the availability to ditch run flat tires.

JCW steering wheel I'd highly recommend and will actually be getting installed myself. Awesome piece!

Finally the various exterior (CF pieces, spoiler, etc.) and interior (yet more CF pieces, shift ****, etc.) are totally subjective. Some love the look and don't mind paying the pretty high price for it, while other forego it.

Thanks. Don't have them in front of me so let's see....

Red with black roof, sunroof(s)
Sports Package
Premium package
Cold Weather package (heated seats for my wife)
Convenience package
LSD
17" wheels
Nav
no hood stripes

I think that is the basics.

Good advice - thanks. The engine and handling performance is all I would probably go for - can these only be added with a new car or can the dealer do it at a later time?

Kevin from the POC - is that you???

Hey, this is Rich Mitsuda. How are you? I havn't been out to the track in a few years, but I do miss the POC crowd. Happy New Years and I hope to see you guys in '08 sometime (most likely the Tribute).

Take care,

Rich

The stage one is great! Freeking fast!!! The suspension is great too as the car needs the help as it lacks the R53 handling. I have the18" JCW wheels and love them but they are overpriced.

Hi Rich!

Congratulations - I see you are about to pick up your MINI. Ours is a couple of months away but when we get it Marnye and I will likely do some STS events with it.

We sold our GT3 (street) but I'm still racing the Cup car - hope to see you at some POC events. I will be at Tribute but John Gordon and I are going to team up to race his newly built Boxster Spec (BSR) car so I will not even bring my Cup out for the event. At least that is the plan for now.

See you at Tribute if not before!
