Maintenance Costs

Minnie here, with another quite possibly dumb question:

Are Minis expensive to maintain? My DH heard that an oil change will cost about $100 at the dealership (normal is $40-50 here). Is that true???? and if true, do I actually have to get warranty and other work done at the dealership? There's an independent service station here that I like & have been going to for years.

I would go to the dealer for warranty work. MINI CA. covers a part of the costs for maintenance for the first 3 years- 80,000 KMs. So going to an independent may not be cheaper.

True - it's hard to beat "free" when it comes to warranty work. As for the oil change, those are covered by the maintenance agreement for the first 3yrs/36k miles, so you won't be out-of-pocket for those, either.

If you want to change your oil more often, you can do it yourself, or take it to any mechanic/oil change place that you trust. Keep in mind that even if you have a "Jiffy Lube"-type place that you trust, they may not stock the MINI filter, so it would helpful to have a new filter with you just in case.
