2008 Convertible

My 2008 Mini convertible non S 5spd. should be in in a few weeks. Still reading conflictiting reports regarding which gas to use. Regular or premium.
Any more thoughts on this?

Any thoughts on maxium speed during break in. Not maxium RPM maxium speed?

Anyone know if my car will have that BMW system that shuts the engine off at idle to save gas?

Thanks in advance to all for all your comments. Mike in Fl.

Yep- Premium fuel only.

According to my manual (now one whole week old ), the maximum limits are 4500 RPM and 100 MPH. It's tougher than you think, luckily I just broke the break-in limit yesterday! :D

The MINI's stop-start system has been delayed for US markets, along with the USB iPod integration that's combined with the Bluetooth prep package- I don't remember anything yet on the auto-up window system though.

Congrats on your upcoming delivery! Not to tease you, but the worst part of the waiting is coming up...

If it is a MINI you gota use PREMIUM. MINIMUM of 91 octane, but 94 is better!

A 2008 R52 is no different than a 2005 R52, you gotta use premium. It says so in your manual & it's not listed as a suggestion, it's listed as a requirement

Just as an FYI, you can run non-premium fuel, but the engine runs de-tuned. 'Regular' gas burns at a lower temperature, and the Mini's engines run with a higher compression ratio that causes lower octane gas to ignite before the compression stroke is finished, which puts added stress on the engine.

The car's computer uses a knock sensor that checks for combustion when it's not supposed to happen and automatically changes to running differently to avoid engine damage. It'll do things like add exhaust gases to prevent early combustion, and it's best to just stick with Premium.
