Greetings, I have just purchased a 1966 Austin Mini. I'm not sure what engine I have, could anyone decipher the vin number for me. My wife and I also own a 2004 MCS. We are excited to begin the restoration of the classic mini and will probably need pointers along the way. Thanks in advance.

Translating the VIN still may not be enough. Back in the day I had a 1962 Austin Mini 850. After I'd owned it for about a year, llike when it was about 5 years old, I pulled the 850cc engine and repalced it with a 1098 cc engine from a MG 1100 I found in a junkyard. The carburetors came from a different junkyard. The oil cooler from a third.

And, to add even more confusion, a lot of newer Minis have been re-Vin'd with numbers from the 60's so that they could be imported.
