Hello all!

Hello everyone! I'm new to the site but, I've had my MC for one year now. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. However, I've run into my first "oh my gosh what do I do now" moment. While coming home one evening a horrible thing happened. A ROCK jumped off the freeway and attached my MC's windshield. Thankfully, my MC was fearless and took the hit without even flinching. However, the next morning I discovered that a hideous crack had started and is currently racing across my MC's cute little face.

After calling the dealership I was told that it would cost between $600 - $650 to replace. After I recovered from the inital shock, I deceided that maybe I should look for an alternative to the dealership.

I live in San Diego and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to find a less expensive alternative to the dealership to get my windshield replaced.

06 MC SB

Thank you!

Welcome to NAM first. I had to replace my 03 windshield a couple of years ago and my insurance paid it. I have no dedcutible so the whole thing was covered. However....it is a MINI windscreen from the Cincy dealership and with installment would have cost $250 so the $600 is really high. Have you contacted your insurance? Good luck......it is always upsetting when your "baby" is hurt.

Welcome Anna2006! I would check your insurance policy to see what it covers. Here in Massachusetts, our rates are high, but you get good coverage on the windshields. I think you can get it replaced 3 times at no charge before they drag you in an alley and pummel you.

On behalf of everyone. Welcome.

There are a lot of threads around that discuss windshields so if you search the forums you'll get more information and opinions that you probably need. Boiling it all down it seems that a lot of people feel that the Mini glass is soft and that a PPG after market windscreen is every bit as good if not better than OEM and that can be installed by any of the auto glass professionals in your area. Satellite is nationwide and seems like a good place to start and they usually have a PPG Mini windscreen in stock.

Good luck,

Rich

I've used safelite to replace two windshields on my 06MCS and was very satisfied. Other people have posted saying they are bad to deal with. I guess any Co. is as good or bad as the people they having working for them. In San Diego there must be several glass Co. you can contact. I paid $231.00 for each one. When I had my 04 MC I had a stress crack on the winshield that was replaced under warranty. Mini windshields seem to attract rocks for some reason and it's a PITA!! Almost for got, welcome to NAM!!

Anna, welcome to NAM.

I'm an Auto Claims Adjuster for State Farm. I can assure you that a rock striking your windshield is a Comp Claim. So the advice others have given you in this thread is sound. Turn it into your insurance company.

I've said it on this board half a dozen times, but one more for good measure: Folks, do not carry a Comp deductible higher than $100 on your auto policy. It costs only a few dollars more a year than a $500 deductible and there are SO many varieties of losses that fall under the comprehensive coverage that it's well worth it.

Collision deductible is another story. You are wise to carry a higher deductible there, especially if you trust yourself not to have an at-fault accident.

Good luck, Anna, and again, welcome to NAM. It's obvious that you LOVE LOVE LOVE your MINI MINI MINI so you'll fit right in here.

Hiya and Welcome to NAM - and you are in our back yard - Yayyy! Looks like you've gotten some answers to your windshield issue - I can't anything other than what's been said except for come check out our local club here in San Diego - http://www.westcoastminiclub.org/. The web site is pretty outdated - we use a Yahoo group to correspond.
