Hello, New Guy Here...
Hi, I'm Keath.
I have been motoring in my red/white mc since 2003. 84,000 really fun miles to be exact.
This has been the greatest car I have ever owned and I look forward motoring on in Big Red for quite some time. This is probably how I found this site really. I want to keep my mini in top shape and this looks like the place to be.
I'll ask a couple of question in this thread and if anyone could direct me where I might go, then I can move on to a more appropriate thread as I try to quench my quest of Mini knowlegde.
forgive me, but... Please explain the R56, R sumpin, etc. thing??? ??
Tires. Big Red, came with Goodyear Eagle EMT5 run flats. Two of them have 84k on them and are long past chucking and due to an unfortunate tire slicing incident, (some S.O.B. apparently didn't like where I parked ), so I have two with about 60k, which need to be chucked also. Hence I have a lot of questions about tires, run flats vs. non rf's, tire sizes
(came with 195/55 R16's doesn't seem to be a lot of options in that size).
I look forward to hearing from someone out there.
Happy motoring!!

Keath:
Welcome to NAM! After 84K miles I have to ask...what took you so long?
Here's a nice post that explains the MINI designations used by the manufacturer:

Good to have you aboard as part of the cult!

Keith, I did 18" non-runflats. General Exclaim UHPs. 35 series are still softer than the 55 series runflats. Yep, they're Continental ContiProContact SSR M+S 195/55/16 and were my stock tires. The new runflats are supposed to be more comfortable, but I wouldn't know as these were my first exposure. fwiw, you'll get lots of answers to your tire questions in the wheel and tire forum. minihune is an excellent source of info over there.

Thanks to all!!
Mgibrace... I was actually looking at the ContiProContact SSR. I read several good reviews and the price seemed pretty good, concidering the limited options in the 195/55 R16 range.
mineartg... Thanks for the link. I haven't quite figured out what it is that i'm driving base on the "Model Number", but it looks like I should be able to figure it out with a little studying. I always thought that 1st generation MINI's where pre-BMW.
See ya around!
