First post - Driving Lamps Problem

Hi everyone,

My first posting. I'm a new and proud owner of a new '06 BRG Cooper (white top and mirror caps, wht bonnet stripes, driving lamps).

First I just want to say that this is a great site; it was incredibly helpful in helping me to figure out all sorts of stuff in buying my Mini. So, thanks to everybody who keeps it up and running.

Second, with less than 3000 miles on my Cooper, I've already had my first problem, though I think it's probably my ignorance, rather than a fault of MINI. Took a look at my Cooper after driving home from work a couple days ago and noticed that the driving lamps were pointed all wrong, and that the grill had been pushed in a bit on the driver's side, and that the glass gel in the passager-side lamp was completely loose.

I haven't parked it many places recently where someone would have backed into it, really, and there were no scratches or on the bumper or hood or anywhere, so I'm guessing that maybe it happened a few days ago in an automatic car wash I took it through.

My question is, has anyone else who has driving lamps had this problem? Was I bone-headed for using an auto wash? I know the dealer never said anything about not using one.

Anyway, I'm gonna get him fixed right away, of course, but wanted to know if I should definately avoid auto wash places or if I should push for my warranty to cover this...etc.

Any advice would be much appreciated. I looked for a previous thread, but couldn't find one that addressed this issue.

Thanks very much.

Automatic carwash is B-A-D for MINI...scratches the paint something fierce!

Highly unlikely that it will be covered under warranty.

Head over to the Detailing 101 forum for lots of helpful information.

Welcome to NAM. Sorry you had to experience something bad with your new MINI already. Hope you get it fixed soon. I try to avoid auto washers, but do take mine through on occasion.
