Greetings from Oklahoma!

Hi all,

I'm Joey Freeland from Pauls Valley OK. I'm 47, married with three kids (just the type of person who needs a MINI). I've been an MG person for most of my adult life. I decided about a year ago to sell my best MG and buy a modern sports car for track days, autocross and fun! I'm an SCCA worker in Timing and Scoring and other specialties at tracks in Oklahoma and Texas.

After much search and debate, I've decided to order a new 2007 MCS. I plan on keeping it simple with few options. Here's what I'm thinking about ordering.

2007 MCS (color as of yet undecided)
Sport Package ???
Sport Suspension
LSD

That's about it. My only question (other than the color) is whether I want the Sport Pkg or just order the DSC separately. I'd like 17" wheels, but I'm not sure what to chose in the package, or just get the 16" wheels and buy some of the nice aftermarket wheels I've seen on this forum. I like the look of black wheels, performance is a big issue also.

What is the best sport pkg wheel option for performance?

Would it be cost effective to forgo the sport pkg wheels, get the 16's and buy a set of aftermarket wheels?

Any suggestions?

Great Forum! Thanks in advance for the help.

Joey

Hi and welcome to NAM. It sounds like you've done a lot of homework on MINI's. I have a MC...(more than enough UMPPHH for little ole me!!) It has the DSC and it's really nice to have while driving on rain soaked roads or ice. I shut it off most of the time though to have the feel and complete control of my MINI. I'm sure that the other NAMSTERS will contrib more than I'm able to on the tech stuff. Good Luck and when you get your MINI...please post pictures for us.

I'm bumping my own intro post!

What??? 29 views (mostly my own) and only 1 reply (thanks Dix)!

Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned Oklahoma in my subject! Hey, I have all of my own teeth and wear lace-up shoes (most days). Give me a chance. I really need help on the rim options. I'm thinking now that I'll possibly get a second set for track days, so I should just choose street tires now. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joey Freeland

Greetings ! I lived in OK City for a couple of years in the mid-90's... nice city. I think it has more restaurants per capita than any city in America. I always wondered if people in Oklahoma had kitchens.

Good decision to go with a MINI. And welcome to NAM.

Joey It's really a personal decision on the wheels. But you'll prob like the aftermarket wheels better as you'll save weight and you can ditch the runflats.

Hope your Dealing with Laura at Jackie Cooper, she's really nice, tell her I say hi when you see her.

Order up. The wait causes all kinds of problems.

Former Okie checking in (I'm from Tulsa). Welcome to NAM. Can't help on the tire question. I assume you have checked out the Tire and Wheel forum on NAM. You seem saavy enough to probably benefit from after market tires. It will probably also save you money to go aftermarket.

Well - I did it!

Placed my order yesterday - here are the specs

2007 MCS CR/B
sport suspension
lsd
dsc
sport steering wheel w/ multi function controls
anthracite headliner
clear indicators
rear fog lamps
16" bridge spokes
leatherette seats

That's about it. Not a lot of bling, but I thought it was a pretty sporty pkg. Delivery in 6 - 10 weeks.

Ha, motoring with a grandson in the backseat is nothing, wait until you're in the backseat and the grandson is driving. Trust the twisties!

The fastest color
Dunno' what the roads are like out there in OK, but rough roads are tough on the kidneys with 17" wheels. I have runflats which are much worse than nons, but still a rough ride.
Welcome!
