Classic Mini in MD

Hello! I have a 1980 Austin Mini on its way from the UK as we speak. I'm really nervous about getting through customs and all that, as I've heard that it's never simple... but here's hoping!

It's just about the cutest thing I've ever seen (well, maybe outside of a Messerschmitt, but I've never gotten to see one in person...). Here she is!

I'm naming her Alice (as in Wonderland) for the checkerboard top. Look closely... even the emblem is checkered!

I'm not much of a car person and I know that getting a classic is quite the undertaking... so any advice is appreciated.

Take acre!
Melissa

How did you go about finding this car and figuring out how to get it over here? Just wondering.

Wow, nice! I'm sure you'll find lots of good info and people who can answer specific questions in the classic Mini section. Best of luck through customs!

Congrats on the Mini!
I know what your going through. I also had a 1980 Mini shipped over about a year ago. I decided to use a broker to get the hard stuff taken care of. They were able to keep me informed of what was going on, and let me know what I needed to take care of.
I foolishly decided to drive it from the shipyard to home. That was fun. I should have had it trucked back, but incase you decide to drive it, bring a container of gas. Enough to get to a gas station. I ran out of gas exiting the shipyard, the same place all the tractor trailers use. Tad bit scary as there was no place to push the mini out of the way. The police were nice enough to bring us some petrol.
Then, one exit north of my destination, the engine spun a bearing.
We towed it the rest of the way.

I found it on ebay.co.uk and I'm just using a shipping company to get it here. RJJ Freight I believe is there name. After working with them, I would definitely recommend them. They were incredibly helpful and responsive.
