14,246 ft high in my MINI

Yes, on Monday, May 29th (Memorial Day) I am heading up Mt. Evans for the reconnaissance run (and of course, pictures at that altitude).

Anyone want to go? I will leave Denver early - then thru Evergreen / I-70 at 7 am....post here if you want to go along. This is part of our mapping for our rides for MitM so we will go all the way (r/t) to and from Copper Mtn Resort as a part of this trip. I expect to be done early afternoon - not all day - so you can still plan a BBQ in the afternoon.

Thanks, see you there. I will post pics then at www.dragontales.smugmug.com

I am seriously thinking of going to MINI's on the Mountain... and want to do the Mt. Evans run...

But having been over 14,000 feet on Mt. Whitney...

Hypoxia should be respected, and I would encourage the event organizers to guard against slow reaction times, stupid oxygen deprived drivers, etc....

I read somewhere once it affects 1 in 4 over 12,000 feet.

Just don't make it an after thought... a pre-run mental test, or something should be done to weed out those that aren't thinking right.

Good Luck, sounds like fun....

I would agree with that. Having driven extensively at 12000 feet, you can feel it. Having been up Pikes Peak at 14400, the effects can easily be felt.

Be careful

Thank you MadHatter

As a result of your post, we will be happy to provide to our members and attendees instructions should they or anyone they are with observe symptoms of hypoxia, or oxygen deprivation.

Common treatment for mild hypoxia is to stop the ascent, or in fact descend until symptoms disappear.
