Can you run VGS and Detroit BPV together?

I already have BPV but I have been thinking of this VGS mod. Is this worth it or just a waste or time. I love mods and this seems like a cheap one.

i have heard of a few people running both, but our BPV over powers the VGS so i don't really thing it's worth doing. do a search and there is another thread on this already with a bunch of info.

I have both and really like them both. I think they are great together.

Mario, are you still liking your new FBT head. How does it drive? Is the power down low/mid or mid/high? How about around town driving? Sorry for all the questions but I'm looking at getting a head.

Hi Mario: Nice to meet at the motoring4toys GTG (I was the guy that was getting the Uber MINI scoop). I had the VGS and then I got the BPV. I ran them together for a long time until I read some posting here that the VGS mod raises intake temps. I reversed the VGS and the car still runs smooth as before. From my experience, I would say it wouldn't hurt, but it probably wouldn't matter

I want the Detroit BPV so bad but the install scares me. I can just imagine breaking off the tabs and killing my mini. Should I be concerned with the install or is there only a small number of people having a issues with the install?

What do you mean?

usually you're right on the money, but this is just BS. The two can be installed independantly, or together. If one understands how they work and what they do, this is obvious.

to add to that.......is this a worthwile purchase on an '06? Seems the fix for older cars obviously, but not sure how it compares to the unit on newer cars.

I looked for my explanation of the two systems...

but I have too many posts to find it.

The VGS takes the vacuum post SC. There are a couple of features to this, the most notible being the positive feedback in the closing and opening of the valve. As the valve closes, the post SC pressure will increase, closing the valve faster. And once it's starting to open, it will dump some pressure from the post SC side to the pre SC side, opening it faster. The other effect is that the boost will also help keep the valve closed agains boost gains. This may be very important to those runnint 19 pulleys and the like, as you can generage so much boost that it starts to push the valve open. I'm not sure what pressure this happens at, some japanese site selling adjustble BPVs was claiming 18 psi boost, but I honestly don't know.
This is independant of the yo-yo. This was from the valve starting to open, and the pressure upstream of the valve changing, and it would couple to the drive by wire programming, and oscillate. That's why not all cars have it, and that it hasn't been present for a while. SW revs have made it a thing of the past (changed the coupling to the drive by wire).

The modified BPV spring does two things. It changes the vacuum level (combo of RPM and throttle position) at which the transition occurs, and how far the valve opens per inch of vacuum.

While these both effect the same systems, the are independant modifications.

Hope this helps.

Matt

on the BPV. the other major thing that is done.. is that when it closes .. It acturally closes on the Detroit one.

On the early one all the way up to 2005(when i brought my bpv from the dealer). The butterfly was not adjusted right. it askewed a little causing it to not close and let pressure through. Both the spring and the butterfly was Fixed or Modded by the Detroit one.
