Rebadging as a BMW

Ugh!!! The worst!!!

I was sitting in traffic today, and I saw a Cooper parked on the street. I took particular interest because it it was a Burgundy color I have never seen before. I thought, oh, that's a nice color. And then I saw a mirrored BMW front license plate on the front bumper!!! I was appalled!!! I don't know, I just think a BMW is a BMW, and if that's what you want it to be, then that's what you should have gotten! Seriously! I don't know. I think it degrades the make if you have a car that you are trying to associate with another make, even if they are the parent company.

Maybe I'm the jerk, what do you guys think?

I think it's a little tacky. But compared to some of the stripes, stickers, graphics, and other crap I've seen on these beautiful little cars, I think a little simple BMW tag doesn't seem so bad by comparison.

If it was just the plate I don't see anything wrong with it at all.......I know some people that laugh at the car til I mention that BMW owns MINI, then they are like "REALLY?".

But I was torn between getting a little older 330CI or my MINI...but glad I got my MINI and proud of it!

About as stupid as the GMC pick-up I saw with a Cadillac badge and "Escalade" on the tailgate. The front grill still said GMC.

I had a guy order up a MCSC one day and wanted me to debadge it and put BMW roundels on it.... I told him that it was against my religion, and if he wanted a BMW, then he should go next door and buy a BMW... He thought a MINI was the lower end BMW... He called a couple of weeks later and they moved his depsit from the MINI to a 330i, but the sad thing is, no one told me that and I called the guy up to let him know his car was here... Next thing I know, his BMW Advisor was coming over asking me why I was calling his customer telling him his car was there.. Whatever, I hate miscommunications!! And I think its a shame to put BMW all over your MINI, I have all kinds of crap on my car, but no roundels for me!! All MINI baby!!

It's like putting HEMI badges on a Mercedes. It may share some DNA but I sure as hell wouldn't buy another BMW.

It's not a question of being open minded... Open minded is when your son comes up and says he's gay, but he still loves you. Open minded is when someone that's failed over and over to meet your expectations at work asks you for one more chance and tyou decide "Ah, what the hell?"

This is simply a matter of taste and looks, and it's either one of those "Eh... looks OK I guess" or a "Wow cool!" or a "Jeez, how tacky" kinda things, that you just feel as a knee-jerk reaction. Personally, I don't feel like I'm a close-minded car bigot because I find "mixing the breeds" via re-badging a bit "wannabe" and sad. But, hey, that's just me.... I never really cared for BMWs (kinda boring IMHO) but I decided one day that I liked Minis, Surprise! I bought one and wear my Mini wings with pride. If I wanted a BMW, I would have bought a BMW (shrug).

NEVER! If MINI was made by BMW I wouldn't have purchased it.
Jesus, that's almost as bad as a Jaguar owner putting a Ford badge on it. Think.

Just because it's owned and now produced by BMW doesn't make it a BMW, you don't see Jaguar putting Ford decals on their cars!! Or lexus putting toyota, or Volvo putting Ford, or Mazda putting Ford decals as well. We all know why, certain companies need financial help, it doesn't make that car any different than before.

I agree. If someone wants a BMW badge on their MINI, whose to say they can't do it?

Having owned and loved several BMW's I understand why some people see value in pointing out the relationship.

But for me, I'm as proud of the differences as the commonalities, so my badges will always stay MINI.

I don't think it's a matter of not allowing one to badge up their MINI the way they want to. It's more a matter of keeping oneself within certain reasonable parameters. A MINI is a MINI. It is not a BMW. (Although I would like to argue that a MINI is the ultimate driving machine!) Personally, I think the person who attempted to "upgrade" their MINI to a beemer is a disgrace to all MINI owners past, present and future. It's one of those things that make you want to blow chunks.. Just my thoughts.

Mine will always keep the badges it came with but to those who have no idea what a MINI is it helps to tell them BMW owns MINI, then the light comes on...

What's to get? The engine is made in Brazil, the tranny is made in Germany, the One-D's engine is made by Toyota in Japan, some parts are made in Spain, and the UK, and the whole thing is assembled in Oxford.

The design & engineering is BMW. So besides the spurious BMW badges on your car, can you please point to anything actually MADE by BMW?
