body shop should not need a sample unless your car has been repainted a non factory color. All they should need is the color code from the sticker found under the bonnet ... or the color name and they can get the code from any number of places. I even posted a table of color codes a couple of years back and I think it is a sticky someplace . . . (with the code they can get the paint supplier's formula and that tells the computerized mixing system 2 squirts of this and a drop of that and there ya go ... )

And paint does fade with time and exposure to sunlight. Even well-waxed paint can experience some fading.
Fading does tend to happen unevenly, though, with upper surfaces tending to get more sunlight than side/front/rear. Hopefully the fuel door is still the identical shade as the parts that need the paint.
Is it feasible to just take the whole car to the paint shop?
