MINI (Garmin) Portable Navigation

Picked up the portable MINI Nav by Garmin today. Should have this installed within the next few days and will post pictures once installed. It is fully voice activated, HD Screen, Bluetooth and also has traffic and is upgradable.
Works with CM power supply and mutes sound when active.

Below are the part numbers if interested:
65-90-2-348-018 GPS, MINI Portable $225.25
65-90-2-351-408 Installation Kit $131.75
65-90-2-348-476 Bracket $13.00

I will post pictures once installed.

Thanks,
Chris

nice little unit.
do an internet search and you'll find custom vehicle files so you can have your mini as the vehicle on the gps.

Check this out, it works with your system and gives you a full customizable on screen engine gauge package. I use one and it works great...

Installed the MINI Garmin Nav, Nuvi 2497 today and looks good. May not be as fancy as the factory install but the voice command works really well, easy to see and use and it looks right at home next to the tach.

Like the customization and the cost was minimal compared to the factory option. For those who may be interested the Nuvi 2497 also allows for free lifetime updates. Here are a few pictures showing the profile, side and back views. Clean look once all is installed and put back together. Took about an hour to install and wasn't to difficult.

If anyone needs the instructions let me know and I will post.

Happy Motoring!
Chris

Here are the instructions for the install, bracket and device. I have the 4.3 screen device for LHD. If you have the traffic component you will need to remove the "A" pillar also. Without the traffic component you can just install without removing the "A" pillar. It will involve the Tach, OBD port and lower dash so you can stow the cables. You will need a Torx T30 to remove the Tach and a #2 Phillips to remove screws on the back of Tach. You will also need a T20 to remove the lower dash and OBD connector.

The power source is the OBD (lower dash/driver side). The instructions state to plug in A1 to OBD pin 1 which is, green with a blue tracer. The problem with the instructions is it does not tell you that A1 is positive (Red) and A2 is negative (Black). We metered ours to ensure it was correct. PIN 4 & 5 are the grounds and they are black with a brown tracers.

Let me know if you need anything additional and Happy Motoring!!

Thanks for the info! I just bought a garmin 2597LMT from best buy, something the wife and I can move back and forth between cars. I have been trying to think where the best place to mount it is. This info that you shared was very helpful! Thanks again.

my window mount unit is on the floor more than it's mounted because the suction cup breaks seal constantly when it gets hot.

where did you pick this unit and hardware up ?
did you get the traffic cable ?

I picked up the bracket and the MINI Garmin from my MINI dealer.
I did not purchase the traffic add on since the device does auto
re-route. I listed the part numbers that I have for mine in the
above posts and am happy with how it looks and works.

The bracket bolts on the back of the tach and the cables run
in the bottom portion of the dash so you have a clean look.
Everything plugs into the OBD and the actual device is
still portable if you want to take it out of the MINI.
The bracket is the only thing that is bolted.

Shop around at different MINI dealers for the price. Some charge full retail
and others offer a discount. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Happy Motoring!
Chris

Any way to mount it differently? I found the steering wheel cuts off the left side of the display if I don’t lean over to the right like in this pic... :(

I bought the mounting kit from ECS Tuning and locally, the Garmin Nuvi 2497.
I want the MINI splash screen on my Nuvi but it seems the splash screen change on this model is not easy (as in older/other Garmin models where you could replace or create an image and paste it to the GPS directory).

Any advice on this?

Special thanks to Chris (14MCS4) and his instructions.
I have installed my MINI GPS Mounting kit in less than 30 minutes.
Knowing that A1 is the red cable, was an invaluable help.

Now waiting for the BC-30 camera.
Do you know the best place to install it (ouside, license plate, bumper VS. inside, behind the rear windows) and the pin/color wires on the tail light socket where the camera power must be branch to the backup light bulb?

Some problems with the Offical Mounting Kit using a Garmin 2497:

1) The left upper GPS corner is totally blocked by the steering wheel.

2) If you move the GPS to a position where it is not so blocked then you hit the GPS when you use your lights stalk to turn right.

Seriously, thinking in how to move the GPS to the dashboard vent grill...

MINI GPS still there.
You need to get the steering wheel lower to get a good view.

I'm still searching for the backup wiring colors to connect the BC-30 backup camera.
Anyone with this info for the R56 2010 LCI?

Yes! I could see too much people burning the FRM because "testing" the wires to connect the rear camera.
I could see the "possible" wires colours in some threads, but it would be very appreciated if anyone could confirm this info about the back up lights wires
