Another Great MINI Day
My '02 MCS turned '76,000 miles on my way to work today and it was another day of no problems at all . I have only had my MINI since December, but so far it has been a lot of fun and very reliable. Since I put it on the road in March as my daily driver, (replaced my '98 Regal) the only repair to date has been a broken muffler hanger ($38, big deal). Of course I have done some normal maintenance like an oil change, new serpentine belt and last week I replaced the lousy tires that were on it with a set of 215/45R17 Yokohama AVID ENVigor (W). The ride is great and the tires are absolutely quiet. Everything on my MINI works just like it came from the factory. The car still has a very solid feel, absolutely NO rattles anywhere. I read about all the problems, but honestly I'm not seeing them - I hope it stays that way .

Yes No Rattles
Yes I am driving a MINI and yes I don't have ANY rattles . The only rattle I did have was caused by the broken muffler clamp I replaced. I have also installed Dynamat which helped with road noise. Right now I couldn't be happier wirh my '02 LY MCS although my dream MINI would be a Blue '06 Checkmate

I had 65K on my '03 MCS JCW when I sold it, during my ownership it had one bad brake light switch which made the crusie control not work, one leaking plastic coolant recovery tank and one window motor replaced - that was it. New owner reports the car is still running fine with no issues......oh, and I did replace the battery right before I sold it, since it was 6 years old......it still worked fine, I just considered it maintenance at that age.
My '09 Clubby S had the chain tensioner replaced at 3K and the PV hose replaced about 10K, it now has almost 20K with no other issues - none!

that's Funny cause My mini is having the passenger window motor replaced today! Hopefully she will not turn into a pumpkin at midnight.
The previous owner had a dog that chewed the package tray ***** to bits. can you replace those too? (the ***** under the tray that attach to the string to raise and lower the tray above the cargo compartment) ; }

Lmbo - that is too funny! You should see the look the baggers (from the Commissary on base) give me when they have to load my groceries in the boot. A look of: "Are you kidding me". I laugh every time! I love my 05MCS! It's not to small - it's just a matter of organization and smart packing.
I bought a bunch of outdoor seat cushions at Target when they were clearancing out for fall. I couldnt see over the stack it was so high. I pull the cart up to my MINI and people just stared wondering how it was all going to fit. I dropped the top, stacked them in the back seats and motored away (with one arm on the stack so they wouldnt fly out).
I will often have to reorganize to boot so that I can fit the groceries in...it's a game...kind of like a real world tetris!

I've only had my '06 Cooper for about 5 months/2000 KM but it's been a solid runner. The paperwork I have from the previous owner who drove it for the first 30,000KM indicates nothing but routine maintenance. I had to have the leaky thermostat replaced under warranty, no big deal. It rattles a little but I've got the runflat tires at 38PSI so that's probably my own fault

Well I've only had my new MCS for 5 days now, but it was delivered to me totally defect free (Rare for a new car) and I have not yet discovered any problems or issues that require dealer service. (oops Sorry, just noticed I was in the wrong forum. Anyway to delete a message on this forum)

Well it's nice to read these posts. I have been considering buying a MINI for some time and was beginning to get discouraged by reading all of the negatives about the reliability of these cars. Ever since they came out I've liked them but just couldn't justify buying one but now I think I might be ready. I haven't actually driven one but have sat in several at car shows and they seem quite roomy even for a taller driver such as myself.
As far as reliability goes I have three 1962 British cars so I'm not a stanger to rattles, wind noise and breakdowns but they're a little cheaper to fix in an old car as my labour comes dirt cheap. The point of me buying a MINI, other than I love the look of them, was to have a more modern car that didn't need all of the work an old car does. Reading all of the negatives made me afraid that if I bought a MINI it would spend more time at the dealership than in my driveway so it's nice to hear there are a lot of folks who haven't had a lot of problems.
Anyways I think I'll look into a post 2007 MCS with a manual box. I might consider an automatic if they turn out to be fun to drive in the manual mode. I'll have to test drive both and see.
It's great to have this forum, I've learned a lot about waht to look for and loook out for by perusing it's pages.
Thanks,
Alan
