Removing and replacing sticky stereo *****

I just bought a 2011 countryman and the volume **** is very sticky! I have ordered replacement ***** andnwondering if someone could tell me how to get the old **** off. It doesn't seem to want to just pull off and I don't want to damage anything!

I know this was forever ago, but did you figure this out? I've been combing through the forum, YouTube, and elsewhere to figure this out with no success.
